Why don't people naturalize?

Another reason is some LPR's never learn to speak English. I know several older Vietnamese people who immigrated through their family members, and they'll never become US citizens because they'll never learn English well enough to pass the test.

My late father had to renounce his dual citizenship for the sake of his future children after Indonesian government changed immigration laws due revolution in late 1960's. Since then, Indonesian would not allow to have dual citizenship. Recently, Indonesian government make easier for children of mixed marriage to hold dual citizenship until 18 years old.

I think citizenship is all about legal papers things. It doesn't make any difference whether I am still Indonesian or American in the future. If my destiny holds that I would became an American it is not removed all the facts I am Indonesian who born in Indonesia. I will abide law wherever I live in.

we have old proverb here says, wherever ground is stood on, the sky is hold high. It means wherever we live, we must observe the local custom.

My fiance suggests me to do naturalization when its time coming up in the future. He just wanted me being well protected by him for having me as USC. He feels that if I'm still hold Indonesian citizenship, he's afraid some crazy laws would separate us in any chance.

I'm not too sure if I plan on doing it myself.

I don't like some of the things that go on here, but I love my husband and since he's here, so am I.

So court started, and we were in session for about 40 minutes, then a break, and then another 30 minutes. Of course that was too much already so we called it quits before noon.

Not a bad way to work an 8 hour day.

come crazy law..? this makes no sense.. This only happens if you're breaking the law. IF the crime is bad is enough you'll just sit in prison upwards to life.. versus being deported if you're a LPR and starting over with the loved husband.

blush.gif. That's funny way my fiance saying about some crazy laws. I was graduated from law school but not using it and chose being a journalist instead.

So, when I said about some crazy laws I would base some knowledges that I learnt from my university. Laws as not as simple what people thought about that especially when the laws againts to each others.

who said law is perfect? It has been made by human. No one can't claim themselves as perfect as can be they are. Oh, well, I won't give some lectures here since I can't claim myself as a lawyer and never have practising it by myself. This is would give you some entertain to yourself for reading pleasure.whistling.gif

I'm not eligible for citizenship for a year & a half.

With that said, I'm still un-sure on whether I'll naturalize or not.

For me, its more than just filling out paperwork & taking an oath.

They Can Come ... They DONT have to get US Citizenship... it's not a requirement to gain permanent residence... IF you had taken the time to read most said they did not want to come but came due their spouses/fiances ..

Not so crazy when there's been talk about denying citizenship to children born in the US from foreign parent/parents who are not legal. Besides the argument against the parents, why would a child be 'punished' for a 'crime' parents committed?. I would call that crazy law.

Xenophobia happens, it has happened before and could happen again, even in the US.

Many provisions of the Patriot Act is something that many thought would never ever occurr in the US (count me in there), like detaining a person for a long number of hours without cause, but based on the Patriot Act, and with habeas corpus suspended in those cases.

Anyhow, don't want to stir a political discussion here, just posting one example. The point is, if you live long enough, you will see it all. And to finish, 'crazy' is relative. SOmethings that might be crazy to some, might not be such to others.

My wife plans to become a citizen in a few years. She loves America and considers it her new home. A side benefit is that her passport, Belorussian, limits her in traveling as that country does not allow visas to most countries. As an American citizen we can travel more freely. But that is not the main reason. The freedoms she has here simply do not exist in her home country.

I am lucky that I am from a country that allows both citizenship...

So I will probably go for US citizenship as soon as possible. For a couple of reason.

I want to be able to vote in the country I reside in

The flexibility of being able to work in Us & Canada is a bonus

If for some reasons we have to move to Canada and then back in Us, I will not have to go through the GC process again.

If I could not have dual citizenship, I would most likely stick only to my Canadian citizenship...

I decided to be a us Citizen because I did not want to have to do more USCIS processes in the future.

It makes me feel very anxious.
