There's no such thing as a Christian terrorist. (if it works for Islam it should work here).

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt

One such 'grandpa' recently shot a number of folks dead at the Holocost Museum in DC. Sorry Slim, there's talk and there is the ability to act on that talk. Too soon to say regarding the 'grandpas' in the OP, but I won't disregard their ability to plot terror.

I'm not saying grandpas can't do something. Historically speaking, grandpas have been influential in many campaigns for freedom.

What I'm saying is the BATFE/FBI/etc., shouldn't be worried about citizens (especially senior citizens) conversations. As a matter of fact, they don't have the right to monitor our coversations regardless of our age. If they have actionable intelligence from a credible source they can do so but planting someone inside a group or specifically extracting information from a source within a group of citizens in regards to treason or terrorism is not the BATFE/FBI's job and treads a very thin line, legally speaking.

We should never, as a people, advocate for a federal law enforcement agency to bring about charges on mere talk alone. We should actively oppose any such allegations and the entire practice itself.

I'll agree with you on that, but not in this case, it seems quite obvious.

Slim, stop being a derp. The article is quite clear whent it states that the men were recorded, talking of their plans and ideals to kill federal judges

Stop the disingenuous ####### Slim. You can't get arrested for meeting with your friends. You can get arrested for meeting with your friends and discussing your terrorist plot to bomb and murder federal judges and employees to further your own political gains.

If your part of the conversation involves advocating the comission of a crime, in this case murder, then yes, you are a part of the conspiracy to commit a crime, and should be arrested.

Slim, you are absurd. Sorry, you dont' have a right to plot a violent overthrow of the government. Murder is still a crime in this country. You should look into immigrating to Waziristan, no government restrictions, no government presence, and no restrictions on weapons, you could get your very own rocket launcher.

So does them being over 65 preclude them from knowing how to use a firearm? Just because they are over 65, does that mean that if they fire a gun, no bullets will come out, or magically they will turn into Werthers candy? I realize this is your demographic slim and you're sticking up for your people, but you are being ridiculous.

Once again, I'm not saying these men couldn't be a credible threat.

What I am saying is the alphabet agencies should not be monitoring conversations of citizens and arresting them based simply on their words.

In just saying that quote right there, there is nothing wrong/nor illegal with it.

Exactly.

The intial reporting by the Atlanta Journal Constitution provided the following:

The FBI affidavit noted that the agency's confidential informant, whose name was not disclosed, is out on bond for a pending state felony charge. The FBI gave the informant a polygraph test during the investigation of the militia group, and the informant gave "less than truthful responses" about the militia group's activities, the affidavit said.

I have not seen it in any subsequent report. You can bet their defense lawyer will pick up on it though. It is in the Oct commentary.

So I wonder if the FBI or any other agency is going to pay for these guys' legal fees once the charges are dropped?

For them, it's probably not that big of a deal since it's likely they're retirees. For us "regular folks" we'd probably lose our jobs, wouldn't be able to pay our bills while in jail, have a bunch of legal fees, etc., etc., etc.

Who pays for that during the trial phase?

none of those quotes are damning evidence, they could have been "speculating" about what needs to take place.

Speculation and words are not illegal. And the entire problem with this case is the agencies' actions are setting us up for a future where we can be hauled in for having conversations.

That's not American.

From 1775. King George's response to the actions in America -

Whereas many of our subjects in divers parts of our Colonies and Plantations in North America, misled by dangerous and ill designing men, and forgetting the allegiance which they owe to the power that has protected and supported them; after various disorderly acts committed in disturbance of the publick peace, to the obstruction of lawful commerce, and to the oppression of our loyal subjects carrying on the same; have at length proceeded to open and avowed rebellion, by arraying themselves in a hostile manner, to withstand the execution of the law, and traitorously preparing, ordering and levying war against us: And whereas, there is reason to apprehend that such rebellion hath been much promoted and encouraged by the traitorous correspondence, counsels and comfort of divers wicked and desperate persons within this realm: To the end therefore, that none of our subjects may neglect or violate their duty through ignorance thereof, or through any doubt of the protection which the law will afford to their loyalty and zeal, we have thought fit, by and with the advice of our Privy Council, to issue our Royal Proclamation, hereby declaring, that not only all our Officers, civil and military, are obliged to exert their utmost endeavours to suppress such rebellion, and to bring the traitors to justice, but that all our subjects of this Realm, and the dominions thereunto belonging, are bound by law to be aiding and assisting in the suppression of such rebellion, and to disclose and make known all traitorous conspiracies and attempts against us our crown and dignity; and we do accordingly strictly charge and command all our Officers, as well civil as military, and all others our obedient and loyal subjects, to use their utmost endeavours to withstand and suppress such rebellion, and to disclose and make known all treasons and traitorous conspiracies which they shall know to be against us, our crown and dignity; and for that purpose, that they transmit to one of our principal Secretaries of State, or other proper officer, due and full information of all persons who shall be found carrying on correspondence with, or in any manner or degree aiding or abetting the persons now in open arms and rebellion against our Government, within any of our Colonies and Plantations in North America, in order to bring to condign punishment the authors, perpetrators, and abetters of such traitorous designs.

ÊÊÊÊÊÊGiven at our Court at St. James's the twenty-third day of August, one thousand seven hundred and seventy-five, in the fifteenth year of our reign.

GOD save the KING.

You have to ask yourself.... are you paranoid?

I'm not the one advocating millions of dollars a year be spent to protect me from grandpa.

Here's another grandpa from the south that made a threatening phone call. He is facing up to 10 years timeout.

FBI: Tennessee man charged with threatening family of US House Majority Leader Cantor

RICHMOND, Va. — A Tennessee man left profanity-laden voicemail messages at the office of House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, using an anti-Semitic slur and threatening the Virginia congressman's family, federal authorities said Thursday.

Glendon Llewellyn Swift, 62, of Lenoir City, has been charged with threatening to assault or murder a member of the immediate family of a United States official.

The FBI said in an affidavit that Swift left two messages at Cantor's suburban Richmond office the evening of Oct. 27, threatening to "destroy" the congressman, rape his daughter and kill his wife.

The caller shouted obscenities and slurs at the Jewish congressman, according to FBI special agent Nicholas Bultinck's report. The agent said the calls, which together lasted a little more than five minutes, were traced to Swift's cellphone.

Swift told the FBI on Wednesday that he "got drunk the other night and started cussing people out," the affidavit says. Swift admitted making the calls to Cantor but did not remember threatening the congressman's family, according to the report.

"Threatening to harm the family of a public official is a very serious charge, and we are grateful to the FBI and their law enforcement partners for their quick action in this case," U.S. Attorney Neil H. MacBride said.

Cantor spokeswoman Laena Fallon said the six-term Republican had no comment on the threats.

Swift made a preliminary appearance Thursday before U.S. Magistrate Judge C. Clifford Shirley Jr., in Knoxville. A detention hearing was scheduled for Wednesday in Knoxville.

Nobody returned a message left by The Associated Press on a Lenoir City answering machine with a recorded greeting by a man who identified himself as Glendon, and court records do not list an attorney for Swift. He faces a maximum of 10 years in prison if convicted.

This is not Cantor's first experience with threats. In April, Norman LeBoon of Philadelphia was sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to posting a YouTube video in which he called Cantor "a liar" and "Lucifer" and threatened to shoot him.

First reports

Did the "recording device" also fail the polygraph?

Doesn't matter!!!!! If the initial warrant was issued based on information provided by the informant, it is entirely possible that any evidence obtained after that, (the recordings), are inadmissable. We'll see how it plays out.

FBI charges someone that left a threatening message on a congress critter's phone, great. That is their job.

It is NOT their job to monitor conversations of senior citizens.
