If you haven't moved since AOS, it should be in the same spot at your last biometrics.

I'm thoroughly expecting the Denver biometrics office to have moved too. Back in 2009 it was an empty store in a run down Aurora strip mall. I'm guessing they go from cheap location, to cheap location, as premises become available.

That makes sense... Mine has moved further across Reno not as close to downtown as before. So maybe cheaper or more space for the same $'s, as the old Reno office was small.(my ASC is different to my office for interview, which is Sacramento, as we're CA residents a few miles from NV.)

Good link! The Omaha office seems to at least be right where we left it. :)

That makes it easy  Glad the link helped.

So I went to my biometrics appointment today. I had considered the possibility of doing a walk-in in advance, but I decided I wasn't in any kind of hurry, and after hearing of people getting hassled by guards when they tried a walk-in, I decided I didn't need the extra hassle. Trying a walk-in only really makes sense to me if it's an emergency and you know you will be out of town when your first appointment hits.

The Salt Lake City USCIS office in on the 4th floor of the 4-story former Mountain America Credit Union office building downtown. They have a very impressive - and slightly forbidding, I must say - steel and concrete sign, making it very easy to tell which building it is. The office is very large and very new - in fact, I commented to the lady taking my finger prints about how much bigger and fancier the office was than the last time I did biometrics two years ago [which was in a tiny little strip-mall storefront in Taylorsville, clear across town. The USCIS office and Application Support Center were in different parts of town before - they're in the same office suite now], and she said they had only moved in three weeks ago. It's all glass and wood laminate and looks, oddly enough, very similar to the Passport Canada office in Winnipeg, Canada. There is also a very strong family resemblance to the main floor waiting room of the SSA office in Salt Lake City - one almost wonders if federal governments have a universally-applied style guide for these sorts of offices. :)

I arrived about 15 minutes before my appointment. I wasn't sure if I had the right building - I knew it was on that block but wasn't sure just which building it was - but it had a wrap-around parkade so there was lots of parking and it seemed a logical place to start looking. Turns out I was in the right place after all.

When you come out of the elevators you turn left - the USCIS suite is the entire southern half of the building. You go through a glass door, passing an InfoPass check-in kiosk, and there is a HUGE security desk. You walk up the inside side of it, and it's just like going through security in an airport - empty your pockets and remove your jacket and walk through the metal detector. I made it beep so they wanded me. Only difference from an airport is they don't make you remove your shoes (though you do have to pull up your pant legs so they can see your socks (I wonder what that's supposed to catch?). Also, no TSA-style groping. :) The guards were friendly but seemed slightly bored. I'm glad I didn't try to do it earlier - I hear that irritates them. They have a process to follow - the first thing they ask is if you have an appointment and look at your appointment notice - and I suspect they get quite testy if you deviate from their procedures.

Once past security you go through another set of double doors, and you're in the office proper. A large room stretching to your left has booths and lots of chairs - that must be where infopass and interviews are held. The biometrics area is through a glass door in a glass walled room to your right. You show your appointment notice and ID to a receptionist. She gives you a clipboard with a pen and a short ID form to fill out. I didn't notice the pen at first and went to fill out the form with a pencil from the customer service survey kiosk at first :)

When I finished the form the receptionist stamped my biometrics notice and handed the clipboard with the form, the notice, and the green card to the lady technician. We went over to the machine. She had me sign a digitizer tablet, took my picture, and took my fingerprints by rolling them over a glass plate on the machine. She was very friendly and very nice.

After the actual biometrics were done she signed the stamp on my biometrics form, and gave me a customer satisfaction survey slip to fill out and put in a box on they way out, where I had tried to get a pencil earlier. I gave them "Excellent"s on all three questions. My appointment was for 10:00 AM and I was out of there by 10:05. On the way out you walk up the opposite side of the security desk than when you went in - there is a "one-way" turnstile-gate thing-y to make sure people can't walk in without going across the front of the security desk though.

The office was a fair bit busier than my last biometrics, and what other people have reported of other offices. There were at least 4-5 other groups of people there, including some employees chatting about the position and utility of the power outlets on the wall behind the receptionist - you could tell it was a new office - you could almost still smell the paint drying. :) There was a family of three with a small child coming in right behind me, which made putting my belt back on in the security area after going through the metal detector feel slightly weird. :)

I'm glad that's done. Now I can put away my paperwork - the ball is thoroughly back in their court. No touches yet - My "Last Updated" is still November 3, 2011, where it's been since I got my appointment notice and could first check.

Now we settle in for the long wait. From here, three things can happen: an RFE (hopefully not - my packet was pretty thorough), an interview notice (please G-d no!), or a "Card Production Ordered" email - and I shouldn't expect any of them for at least a month.

One more step complete!

So... I just checked my bank account and it looks like the check for USCIS has been cashed! This would be considered my unofficial NOA1 then? I was having fears of them sending the whole package back for whatever crazy reason -- i'm hoping this means that it's going to start processing and such...

Thanks a lot, guys.

Exactly. If the cheque cleared, that means they've accepted the package. They've almost certainly already generated the NOA1, and should be mailing it to you very shortly, if they haven't already.

My NOA1 was generated on the 3rd

My cheque was cashed on the 7th.

My NOA1 was mailed on the 7th, and arrived here on the 10th.

If they've cashed your cheque, I would expect to see the NOA1 soon.

Yay!

I'm starting to get really anxious because I'm still waiting for my biometrics appointment letter. My NOA1 was sent on the 14th November and I got it on the 18th November. It's now 1st December and I notice that other members are receiving their biometrics about a week after their NOA1. I'm paranoid it is lost in the mail and that I will miss my appointment especially because I didn't get my AOS biometrics letter until THE NIGHT BEFORE the appointment, they sent it to my physical address so of course it never got here, it was sent back to them as undeliverable so by the time they re-sent it and I finally got it at 6pm the night before I was due to appear at 8am the next morning....and I have to book a flight to get to the damn place....it was a nightmare so I'm paranoid this time!
