Made a trip this morning to the Social Security. They told me, after seeing my green card, that i did not have to apply with them, and, since my gc was very recent (1 week) , it was automatic and i just had to wait to receive my s.s card.Any info welcome.

My wife had to apply, but it was 5 years ago and she was coming with an immigrant visa.

All this is very confusing. After the first visit this morning to S.S , i had big doubts about the fact that i would receive my S.S card automatically.

So, i went back and saw another person.First she told me the same (automatic), then she tells me i had to wait 3 weeks before applying ?? Then she finally started entering all my data on her computer, and finally gave me a receipt saying i would get my card in the mail in 2 weeks ?? It's all a mystery, but i think i made it.The second lady was very nice and i thank her.

If you got your GC thanks to a CR-1 visa and ticked "issue me a SSN" on one of the forms. if you get your GC thanks to AOS (such as yourself) then you have to apply for the GC. You have so you should be fine.

The only thing automatic in the U.S. is the transmission of most cars as Americans are meanwhile to lazy or too stupid to even grab a stick.

When it comes to the SSA, you will wait until it snows in July, every single day of the month, in every state of the Union, until your SS car will arrive automatically after your AoS is approved.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.
