Look, I don't think she should have been thrown in jail...but they said they got two sammies....she 'munched' (ugh I hate that word) on one, kept the wrapper, but forgot to pay for it.

Where did the other one go? And what happened to the wrapper?

Maybe so. But it is still weird for a supermarket to be called chopfcuk.

Anyone/anything can be a CF. That is the rule.

If anything, this should teach her to have some class and wait until she leaves the store before she starts porking.

Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

If that's the case, every time I've been overcharged or not charged the sale price when an item is on sale, I'm calling the police. And if bad manners, tackiness, and all around slobbiness were criminally outlawed, no one would be reading your drivel Kip, because you'd be locked up in a supermax by now, with no contact with the outside world.

I totally agree that Safeway was way out of line and so where the police for that matter. I just hate it when people eat in a grocery store. Grocery stores are for buying groceries, not eating. It's trashy.

Well, there were two sandwiches, so I assume she didn't eat both herself.

So pregnant women who've been walking around all day couldn't eat two sandwiches?

Sit down, eat your food like a civilized person, instead of eating a sub with one hand and shopping with the other. You can drop food, you can get condiments on the cart, or products on the shelves....it's disgusting no matter who does it.

Why would people ever eat at a baseball game or the movies or anything like that?

And just by the by, as a mother who nursed a child...that doesn't make it my right to whip out my breast anytime I felt like it. Pooping is just as 'natural'...and just as vital to life, but you won't see me taking a dump in the middle of a store. But this is just by the by, and not relevant to the topic anyway....

Thank you for sharing that. It's the best summation I've heard of why breast feeding is inappropriate in public. (Even though I honestly don't mind breastfeeding mothers. I love hooters!)

If you wanna eat and shop, go to Costco during sample day.

So it's OK at Costco but not at Safeway?

I'm pretty sure she won't die if she waits a few minutes to purchase her groceries and leaves the store before eating. It's a grocery store, not a restaurant.

The grocery stores around here sell hot food to eat while you're shopping.

Really? Worse than having your 3 yr old child forcibly removed from your custody and forced to allow that child to spend the night with complete strangers who are part of a child welfare system that children have suffered horrific abuses in?

Hey, we pay for that "protection." You act like it's a bad thing. It's almost as if you imply the state is not fit to care for a child.

Why do we have drive through windows? Cars are for driving yet we're encouraged to eat in them.

For the same reasons, we're encouraged to eat while shopping for food.

Slim- the article said she ate one, not two. Stands to reason her hubby ate too, which was why he was arrested. Do I care how much a pregnant woman eats? No.

Costco gives out bite size pieces. Take your sample, eat, wipe your hands, then hen go back to shopping. Don't bust open an unpaid for sub and 'munch' your 'snack' while meandering thru the store. It's not yours, you didn't pay for it, nor was it given to you. And it's tacky.

As far as Drive thru windows, I wouldn't say it's 'encouraged' to eat in cars. It's done so the person doesn't have to go inside to pick it up.

Eating in cars is tacky and gross as well.

It says nothing about the husband eating anything.

Tacky or not, Costco has an entire cafeteria selection at the front of their store and sells to customers who walk around eating stuff that is theirs that they paid for.

Oh. That's why they do it. I've been wrong about drive-up windows this whole time. They're only for carry out, not for eating on the go.

My bad.

That explains why fast food companies have never featured ads of people eating in their cars while on the go. I've never seen a commercial where that happened. Have you? Any of you?

I bet none of you have ever done it either.

Eating in cars is tacky and gross as well.

Yet it's encouraged.

I don't know why you seem to be tangenting here.

And no, I don't eat in my car.

Eta: I don't think drive thru pharmacies are there to promote taking meds in your car, or drive thru liquor stores are promoting d&d either....but now I'm just bickering cos I find this so ridiculously amusing....

Is it annoying when a famished pregnant woman eats? How about when she feeds her starving kids?

Breastfeeding probably bothers folks too.

It's annoying when people think they can do whatever the hell they want under the guise of something else. The fact she's pregnant suddenly makes it okay to steal food? 'cause last time I checked eating food before paying for it, in a place where paying first is the norm, is theft.

Here's an idea... feeling famished? Go to the store, pick a sandwich, CHECK OUT, eat the sandwich and THEN shop. There's no need to walk around eating and shopping.

I often go places where I eat food I have not yet paid for!! And I have never once been arrested. They call them restaurants. Around here most supermarkets now have a section of the store that works exactly like a restaurant as well! As for tacky? You might have a point there but if tacky was a crime there would not be enough prison space to even begin to hold all of my fellow american citizens who could be convicted of that offense!

Your deciding that a behavior goes against the 'norm' does not make it a crime! Especially since many supermarkets now ENCOURAGE people to do exactly this! Obviously they should have paid for it. But Safeway seems to have a rather hostile attitude to their customers based on their actions in this case. I, for one, will be less likely to patronize Safeway for this reason. Not because I would ever try to leave without paying, but afraid that if an innocent mistake were to happen their response to me would be so adversarial!!!
