I'm confused. Did you work at all during the last yeara nd a half? If so, did you receive a W-2? Did you file taxes?

You can not file a 1099. A 1099 is issued to you if you were an independent contractor who received income without taxes being withheld.

Not exactly right on the 1099. I'm retired and I get a 1099 for the pension. I do have taxes withheld from it also.

1099 is simply the self employed equivalent of w-2 you will need one or the other or a co -sponser if you have income you should pay taxes

It's a leading question, to be certain -

but

if you had more than X dollars paid to you, even without a 1099,

you should fill out a tax return, even if it's late.

you may find (if you do fill out the schedule C)

that you not owe any tax.

I remember one year when I made 4 mil in revenue, I paid no tax that year because of expenses nixing my income to under 6K (and yes, I survived the audit)
