Hi,

So I made it into the US in the middle of September and after waiting in a room for a number of hours in Miami airport, they finally processed my package and admitted me into the country. When the agent was chatting to me, he said I had to get married within 90 days of entering the country and once I did, I was to present my wedding certificate to a local immigration office to allow me to stay. He made it very clear, that they would not come looking for me to see if I got married, but would expect me to present the certificate to the local immigration office.

So, we got married last week (well within 90 days) and after checking the forums on this, it appears that the advice offered here is to fill in a number of forms and send them away to Chicago. I'm really rather confused and am thinking of spending all my savings which I brought over here on a lawyer to do everything even though I don't want to as people seem to do this all the time and have no problems. It is just very conflicting advice.

Please help

Check the link here for K1 visa flowchart. k1 flowchart Or you can go to the Guides section Guides and do some more readings. It's pretty basic. I don't think lawyer is needed if your case isn't a complicated one.

CBP agents do not know the process properly and are not educated on the process.

Follow the VJ guide for Adjustment of Status and file AOS as soon as you can. There is no need for a lawyer unless you have red flags in your case.
