I went with my mom and older brother when I was very young; for a couple of years (before my brother got too cool to be seen with his kid sister) I went with my brother and neighbourhood kids in a group. After about age 12, my parents let me go with just my friends. I grew up in a safe and close-knit community in New England, where we all were in and out of each other's houses, which surely helped. Also, I knew not to go outside of my usual daytime comfort zone of a few blocks' circumference and to stay far away from the park. As far as I know, it's pretty much the same thing nowadays there, according to my parents.

As a kid all the neighborhood kids would go around together on our street. The street I grew up on was a deadend street with 14 houses on it. And that was all that we went to. Around middle school when I got serious about wrestling, I had to watch weight and didn't eat candy anyway, so it was pointless to go any longer.

My son is 9 and doesn't want to do it this year. He says it's "stupid." The 2 girls are 6 and 4 and my sister takes them out in the neighborhood where we grew up. I now live in a semi-rural area, with no sidewalks surrounded by a horse farmer to my right and another one behind me and to my left is a tree nursery. So there's really no where for them to go in our "neighborhood."

My kids are too young but when they are older (8-ish) then yes, I;d let them go with friends- never just one or two of them. We live in a very safe, pedestrian friendly subdivision, so we get 500+ trick-or-treaters every year.

500! Holy smokes, thats a lot of door answering.

I'm sure my parents took me out when I was very young but as far as I can recall I went with a friend, brother or Sister.

I heard of some app to keep track of your kids as they go out, I guess it works off of a cell phone.

I'm dressing up as a homosexual and heading over to Danno's.

:P

We had NO kids tonight. Not one. We bought a fair bit of candy to hand out, too. Last year was on a weekend and we had a better turnout. This year is a weeknight, and by the time we got home from work it was dark out, and there have been no kids. I guess I'm eating all the candy myself. :innocent:

We bought 10 bags of candy last year and had one kid show up. This year we bought much, much less and, of course, tons of kids came knocking.

500? I would be keeping my lights off for the night with the shades up if I got hit with a tenth that number. Maybe a sign on the outside of the door that says something like; "I kill little kids...but only after I torture them."

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Our kids are too old. If they were younger I would base my decision more on the traffic safety aspect. Our street is too busy for a young child to be out alone for any reason, but the side streets back here behind us, yeah, no problem.
