I am currently going through the CR1 process. Still waiting on my NOA2, however I am with my family in the Bahamas and would like to start working on the required documents so once our case arrvies at the NVC I will be ready.

How far in advance can I get my police clearnace done, is it too early to have it done now?

I dont have a birth certificate just an affadvit, will this be accepted?

The validity of the police report varies by country, so don't listen to anyone here unless they have been processed in the Bahamas recently. The report needs to be valid when it is reviewed by the NVC, and for most consulates, it needs to still be valid at the time of the interview, so the only way you will know for sure is to contact the consulate and ask unless someone from the Bahamas shows up here first.

For example, you will see plenty of people saying one year, others six months, and in our case in Costa Rica, it is only 90 days--none of what we say matters--only what the consulate tells you.

Find out from the consulate about the validity. Meanwhile, i would suggest find out what documents are required to submit for pcc. Here in india we had to submit 2 affidavits from govt employees along with the application and that alone took a while for me to get ready. So get everything done, fill out the forms and keep the application ready. As soon as you get NOA2, start with the process.

Here is my 2 cents worth information, based on personal experience.

My wife lived in Kuwait and Kuwait issues PCC only after receiving a form from US Consulate, Kuwait. So we took one after NOA2 and submitted with DS-230. The PCC that Kuwait issues had a validity of 3 months (the expiry date was 10/03/2011 and the interview was on 10/30/2011). And thus the Kuwait PCC expired before the interview. So wife's father approached US Consulate, Kuwait for a new form and was told by US Consulates that it was not necessary as all US Consulates consider the PCC valid for 1 years from the date of issue, irrespective of the validity date mentioned on the PCC.

We were doubtful, since US Consulate, Chennai (India), where the interview is, may have a different interpretation but they also said that all US Consulates consider the PCCs to be valid for 1 years from the date of issue, irrespective of the validity period mentioned in the PCC.

USCIS: (92 days)

6/21/11 - NOA2 (NOA1 on 3/25/11) - took a month to get to NVC
3/21/11 - I-130 sent to USCIS Lockbox, Chicago.

Since I lived in the US for just over a year will I need to get a Police record from the US as well. Also would anyone happen to know the procedure?

No need of a PCC from US - It is not required at all - only from other foreign countries.
