Hi. I was wondering if anyone knows if we can use our green card to travel overseas? I know that you're supposed to have a passport to fly but since my green card is sufficient to cross the border on land is it sufficient to fly? My Canadian passport is expired and I'm not a US citizen yet, and we're planning to go to Germany next summer.

I HATE miles, gallons, pints, words spelled without u's, and all that other jazz...

02/23 Received NOA

03/08 Card production ordered

03/10 ROC approval letter arrives

03/15 Ten year Green card arrives

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

Canada requires a passport for air travel. You'll definitely need a valid passport to get into Germany, so get it renewed. Your greencard will let you back into the US when you return.

Passports have been required for flights since 2007 when entering the USA from Canada.

International travels require passports a green card is not sufficient.

Land travel lately have been asked for passport and green card on entry to Canada or the USA.

Best to renew your passport ASAP.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

I renewed my son's Canadian passport by mail from Arizona. It went to the Quebec address (I couriered it) and I put a note on it that I needed it for travel in 5 weeks and the date required. We enclosed four Canadian size required photographs (done at Walgreens) all signed just in case so they had a choice. Go online and read requirements and details very closely under Passport Canada website. Really important to get the photograph size right as it is different than USA passport size.

New Canadian passport was back in Phoenix, AZ in 24 business days :-) We could not leave USA without a current passport.
