when asked for date of arrival into the US, should I use the date stamped on my most recent I-94, or the date I crossed back and forth to Canada (no i-94 is issued for visits to canada)?

Alien registration number. I came to the US as a student and obtained my H1B after graduation. on what document can I find this number?

the only number that I think it may be is found on my I-797a in the beneficiary field there is my name and "A### ### ###"

Is this my Alien registration number?

g-325a

what number do i use for the "file number" field?

I-485

part 3: nonimmigrant visa number.

I do not believe this applies to me, but could someone confirm please.

I-765

Am I supposed to fill this form as listed in the guide since I am working on a H1B visa for a specific employer?

If you are a lawful permanent resident, a conditional resident, or a nonimmigrant authorized to be employed with a specific employer under 8 CFR 274a.12(b), do not use this form

And if I am supposed to fill it, which box do I check? permission to accept employment, or renewal of my permission to accept employment?

I-131application for travel document

since I am an H1B and am also filing my I-485, do I really need to file this (my h1b is valid until 6/30/2012)

Thank you for your continued assistance!

you answered this part of your own question. The Alien number is the A or A# number.

G325 does not have a file number that is not for you to fill out.

non-immigrant visa number is the number on your visa, your visa issuance number. Generally a number in red on the visa.

The H1-B is a non-immigrant visa. When filing for Adjustment of Status from non-immigrant to resident you are essentually saying #### that to the H1-B. At the same time you are entering the Twilight Zone from which there is no turning back.

Yes, you will need AP (I-131) if you plan on leaving the US before you have your AoS petition approved.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

The H1B is a dual intent visa so there is a presumption that you may AOS while on it. So there is a little gray area when it comes to work and travel while you AOS. Once you file for AOS your H1B is not automatically revolked. It is only revolked if you use your EAD card. It is at that point that your H1 is no longer valid and the rules of your EAD card are put in place....While you AOS your H1b visa stamp can be used to travel and work with your current employer....

The other non immigrant visas do not allow this measure but your H1B does. You can ask your company HR department/lawyers about this so you have more clarity.. They will tell you as mine told me that you can use your H1B as usual till you complete your AOS or use your EAD card.

In your case, there is not much of a difference in using your EAD card or staying on your H1B unless your employment is terminated. So I would apply for both your EAD and AP and use it only if you have to....

Thank you for the replies, I still need some clarification/answers on the following:

when asked for date of arrival into the US, should I use the date stamped on my most recent I-94, or the date I crossed back and forth to Canada (no i-94 is issued for visits to canada)?

I-485

part 3: nonimmigrant visa number.

There is no red number anywhere as suggested by one of the answers...can someone who had an H1B please tell me where they obtained this number and what format it is?

I-765

which box do I check? permission to accept employment, or renewal of my permission to accept employment?

I'm going to put the date of arrival as a literal question which is the date I last entered the US. So the last date your crossed from Canada. Include with you any record you have from crossing or a short letter of explaination... This is just my guess....

I was looking for that number myself and I don't think it exists so you may leave it blank because it says "(if any)." Non immigrant visa's do not have Alien numbers as far as I know...

I'm going to check 'permission to accept employment' because I consider my current employment tied only to my current employer. I need permission to accept employment from anywhere not just the company I'm working with now. I think if you check 'renewal of my permission to accept employment' you are indicating that you already have an EAD card that you need extended....

Hope this helps...

Thanks, I was thinking along the same lines. I did some more research about the visa number. As a canadian, it seems I don't have one because I don't need a visa to enter the US, just my passport. It seems people with H1B from other countries actually get a visa (laminated type ID) inserted into their passport which does have a red number on it.

Thank you for the replies :)

L1A and L1B visas permit the same, so an immigration laywer told me. I agree with the rest of your answer.
