So, we are planning to travel to Thailand in February. I just realized that my wives passport still has her maiden name and her newly arrived green card has her new married name. Is this going to be a problem when we go thought passoport checks once we are making our way back home to San Diego?

We don't want to get a new passport unless we really have to., but is we have to, we will take a stroll to LA to the Royal Thai embassy to get it done. Does anyone know?

No you will be fine we all have gone though this different name on passport and GC all you need to do is carry your marriage certificate as CO's realise you would not have had time to change name on passport. You'll be ok have a great trip. Just make sure you book the air ticket in name on passport as they have to match.

I'd go ahead and have her get a new passport when you're in Thailand. They are only valid for 5 years. Last time we were there I had my wife get a new one. Seems easier to do it there than here in the U.S.

  • 3 weeks later...

Ann never switched her Thai passport... no real reason to until it expires, if then.

You don't really need the marriage document once you have your GC.

Also, why are you worried about the green card matching anyway? You don't ever need to show the green card and the passport at the same time, except to the homeland security agents, and they already have all of her name variations on their computer.

Tickets should always match the passport, as the passport is a travel document--that's good advice. The green card is a US entry document.
