NBI Clearance: "For Travel Abroad" or "For Travel To USA"?

Hey Tahoma,

Someone mentioned it on one of my NBI Clearance questions and I saw a post mentioning that the NBI clearance should state Travel to US. I haven't come across anyone who actually had a problem, but a few people mentioning that some "people" had problems. So I made this to clear things up.

It appears the consensus on this thread is that both will work. I would stick with what the Embassy says: for travel abroad.

We'll do. Also, I'll print the page on the US Embassy website as well that states NBI Clearances for Travel Abroad Purposes in case they say anything.

Thanks everyone!

Well, obviously this is a dead thread but my concern falls under the OP's original question. I just got my NBI certificate. It IS in green paper but it says VISA USA, not what I read here which were commonly travel to usa or travel abroad. Should I be worried???

That is fine, as long as it's the green color NBI.

You do need an AKA as you have your married name and AKA - name when single.

Yes there will be a problem, embassy wants AKA for ALL names used, you used your name when single, now you use your married name. You HAVE to do an AKA

Hank is right. 1942.gif

You will have problems which will delay your visa until such time you submit the AKA for a new NBI.

Follow the advice given and you will not have any problems. 2060.gif

Hi i read your website but i have problem with nbi purposes intially i put 'immigration requirement' but the site said it should be 'for travel abroad' but what is more safe 'for travel abroad' or 'for travel To US'? And i also read that nbi clearance should not be 6 months old or else they will ask you for a new one. I have trouble getting an nbi clearance cause my name have a hit. Planning on getting my nbi now though i dont have yet my NOA2 you think it's still super early?

Embassy states FOR TRAVEL ABROAD but for U.S. VISA is just fine also.

Having a HIT is not unusually, wife had a hit, it took a week extra to receive.

You do not want the NBI to be older than 6 months for the interview. Wait until the petition is approved (NOA2) then order the NBI as it will still be a month or so before the case file is at the embassy.
