Transportation Montreal Airport to Downtown

Hi All,

I've been to Montreal once and was in a cab and almost asked the cab to drop me so I could walk. I was scared out of my mind as he tailgated, was weaving in and out of traffic and even went up on sidewalks to get around other vehicles! Having said that, I'm arriving at the airport next Thursday at 5 pm and I refuse to get into a cab in any big city during rush hour, especially Montreal. I wanted something "safer" like a shuttle bus or something. The guy at the hotel when I booked said the 747 bus and I also see you can take VIA (after a shuttle takes you to the train station).

Can anyone suggest a safe way that my fiancee and I can get from the Trudeau airport to downtown? If he experiences a cab ride with me in rush hour Montreal, we may not need the interview.

Thank you again fellow VJers

I would go with the 747 bus, that's how I do it when I go back to Montreal and no one is available to pick me up at the airport.

If you take a look at the route map, you should be able to get close to your hotel. The train is not great; you have to wait for the bus to the train station and then wait for the train... Not impossible, but kind of a hassle; I prefer to just sit on the bus.

I also took the 747 express. There was a very helpful lady at the counter that gave me a map and told me what stop to get off. I believe it was $7. correct change is needed so take a handful of twonies and a few loonies. If you do the return trip within 24 hours back to the airport it is free, you just use the same ticket that they give you when you leave the airport. The bus driver will announce the stops, when he announces your stop pull the cord or press the button so he will stop. Very easy to use this bus line. Good luck!

I was going to recommend L'aerobus, but I see they are no longer listed on the Home page of YUL!! And I can't find the same web page I had used in the past. So bus 747 would prob be ur best option

Express Bus 747: http://www.admtl.com/Passengers/AccessAndParking/STMBuses.aspx

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

L'aerobus is no longer running. I was going to use that option when I went in April but when I arrived in Montreal I was told the only bus was the 747. I was skeptical of using it because I was new to the city, but was pleasantly surprised as to how easy it was to use.
