University Project. Need Help From Immigrant

Hello,

I need to interview an immigrant to the US for a class at the University. I find that it would be much easier AND much more interesting to interview somebody I don't know personally. I think I'd learn a lot more than interviewing people in my family or my friends who have already told me their story in depth.

It's not a long thing. It only has to be 2 pages. I will just be asking things along the lines of... Why did you go to the US? What was your first impression when you got there? What did you like the most? The least? Did you speak the language? Was it hard to learn the language? How do you feel you were treated by others when they knew your immigrant status? Etc.

I hope that someone here feels like telling their story. I won't do anything prejudicial with it. Just have to get this done soon!

There are immigrants from many different backgrounds. You may want to be a bit more specific about what kind of immigrant you are looking for. A girl from Vietnam or the Philippines will be entirely different from an older Lady from Canada, or a businessman from the U.K.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Exactly. It doesn't matter who you are. I don't need somebody specific. I just need to interview an inmigrant to the US.

And I think if I were more specific than what I am being now... absolutely no one would answer me. Oh wait... nobody did. ;)

Hey, I am an immigrant from India. I'd be happy to help you out with any questions you might have. Just a bit of background: I came to the US when I was 18 on a student visa. I went to college in Ithaca, NY where I met my husband junior year. We got married after graduation in India and I returned on a spousal visa in May 2010. We now live in New Mexico. Feel free to PM me! :star:

I don't mind either. I met my husband on the game World of Warcraft in Sept 2007, met in person Oct 2008, engaged Feb 2009 and immigrated to the US in Sept 2009. Married Nov 2009. 2 year wedding anniversary coming up :)

He has only met one of my friends in person, and only my sister and BIL in person. He still needs to visit aus to meet my mum, dad, brother and other friends. A friend is coming in December so he'll meet her then too :) Very excited :D
