I filed I-751 in July and am expecting an approval and a new GC :) soon!

However, I'm moving very far in a week and was wondering what to do with the change of address.

I filed a change of address with USPS but I heard they don't forward government mails. Now, I was about to file a change of address on USCIS website as well, but it says, you have to report an address change within 10 days of moving. That means they want you to report it after you move right?

Let's say I'm moving on November 1.

USPS will forward my mail except the ones from the government from November 1.

My GC gets approved on November 2 and already its on the way in the mail. But they don't update the status by email so I will not notice it.

My GC is delivered to my old house on November 6.

I report a change of address on November 9 (within 10 days!).

Then what happens??

If I am unable to receive the GC properly (due to the time gap of my move etc...), will USCIS reissue it?

I asked about moving and changes of address and the post office worker told me I could do a vacation hold at the old address for up to 30 days and pick up the mail each week. Then I could do the change of address with the USPS and remove the hold on the old address. You might try and see if that will work with your local postoffice as that will get you util the end of November.

Good luck,

Dave

Make sure your name and the USC name is on the inside/outside of the post box so that you get your mail.

Make sure that the USC and the immigrant BOTH file the proper change of address papers.
