The smoke and mirrors about the deportation numbers are widely reported, but irrelevant. Washington, Democrat and Republican alike, doesn't want the illegal alien problem solved, so they concentrate on the deportation numbers, the cost of deporting more and the "we're doing all we can for the money" excuses. It's all Washington agenda #######.

Enforce sanctions against the employers of illegal immigrants, actions against whom this administration has cut by 70%. Eliminate state and Federal aid, financial, legislative and policy alike, to illegal immigrants, adult and minor. Take away any incentive illegal immigrants might have for being here and you won't need to deport record numbers, because the ones here will start returning to their country of citizenship of their own accord, and the influx will slow significantly.

Concentrating on the deportation numbers and costs is disingenuous at best and simply a diversionary tactic. The cost of illegal immigrants remaining in this country, on the unemployment of US citizens, the costs borne by state and Federal governments, and therefore by every US taxpayer, is simply ignored, because it is "inconvenient" to the Washington machine.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

How do you get that from peejay's quoted post? Enlighten me.....I'm working on my reading skills here.....

Your reading skills appear to be fine; your reasoning skills are in need of improvement.

My deductive reasoning is based on more than one post; they are based on a truck load of peejay's posts related to many political threads.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Hands off the 2nd Amendment, but the rest are negotiable.

None are negotiable.

However, we have an historic trend of passing laws limiting or relaxing the intent of amendments. They become less "the law of the land" and more of a guideline that's subject to the interpretation of whomever is in office at the time. Moreover, they're typically defined by SCOTUS more rigidly than the votes of congress.

Interesting question: Were artillery pieces banned from possession at the time of the Constitution?

Nope.

Anchor babies and birthright citizenship are not the problem...it is a rotting of our core values, the values that this country was founded on that is the real problem.

Best. Summation. Ever.

it does apply to the 2nd amendment. you can't go down to the gun store & buy shoulder fired missles, flame throwers, or full auto assault rifles. can you?

If laws can limit rights in one case, they can do so in any other.

Congress can pass any law to restrict your rights even if the constitution says they can't. States can pass even more restrictive laws. Local governments can take it a step further. If they can do so to restrict arms - including administrating an entire agency to do so - they can do so for immigration. We already have the administration(s) to restrict the rights of citizens or immigrants, all we need is a law from congress and/or a ruling from SCOTUS on existing law.

While we're at it, let's ban certain religions, some books, a little bit of art - anything we deem inappropriate or unamerican. Or, I know, let's do it for the greater good or in the name of public safety. That oughta work!

Even with overwhelming support of American voters (those are the ones who vote), there is simply no 75% majority that's needed to ratify an Amendment to the Constitution. But there is a way nonetheless, to end birthright citizenship, and anybody who is involved in these things knows it.

There are 3 Supreme Court judges ready to drop dead or to retire very soon. Ruth Ginsburg has serious health issues, and she's a moderate. If only one new Supreme Court judge is a right-winger, then the Supreme Court will gladly accept the challenge to reinterpret the 14th Amendment in regard to the language "under the jurisdiction of the United States." A court that can declare corporations as people, thanks to a corrupt Supreme Court justice, can easily find that illegal immigrants are under the jurisdiction of their respective governments.

If i remember right, in wong kim, it was stressed that they were domiciled in the US, birth tourists are NOT.

If a US citizen had children abroad, there is no guarantee that the child will have citizenship, let alone US citizenship. It is worse for US fathers who have children with the non - US mothers. There are cases where the father CANNOT transmit citizenship due to legal technicalities. While a tich person from another country who DO NOT plan to raise their US citizebn kids or intstill American values gets easy citizenship for their child.

One more thing: an immigrant who wishes to naturalize needs to learn English, learn US civics, pay fees to the government before having citizenship whole illegals and tourists have it easier

The question to ponder are TOURISTS under the "jurisdiction thereof"?
