Hiya folks,

I was wondering if anyone had used their UK autos on the I-864 as assets? I was told in an email from the London Embassy that I could use the auto as long as we can show that we have two as only one could be used and the other is still to be used by the intended immigrant. And to provide proof of ownership, value less balance owed. (they are both paid off)

Now I found a site at (website removed by request) and it states in order to get the value of your auto to use the Kelly Blue Book, but that is only for cars in the US not abroad. I out of curiosity entered the details of our cars into the Kelly Blue Book.com and it gave me a higher value than that of the site I found in the UK www.whatcar.com

Has anyone used their UK cars on the I-864 and if so, what did you use to give the value of it the US site or the UK site?

Are you really depending on that asset to put you over the top? Until the cars are sold, it's not that great of an asset to use. If you've got enough other assets (like cash) or sources of income, then you don't really need to bother with the cars in my opinion. Being over or a little bit more over with the car asset isn't going to make a difference.

I have found that Kelly values tend to be on the high side when I've sold cars in the US and on a few I've traded in. It's what a buyer is willing to pay in the end. Just pick a number from either place and go with it if you want to add the car. asset. There is also Parkers in th UK my husband says you might check.

Assets need to be based in the US to be considered, typically. Also the value of a UK based asset would be discounted to 20% (5:1 ratio for assets held outside the US). Better to sell the car and put the cash in a US account where it would be factored at 3:1 rather than 5:1.

Of course the cars will be sold but not until we are done with them which won't be until after the interview next month. We paln on our move in February. We have the funds in savings UK & US accounts plus the UK pension that my hubby receives now even though he is still working in the UK he is able to draw his pension and continue to work. We have put the pension directly into savings monthly and his lump sum payout to use later of course. We also have a house in the US that is paid off in full which we can use since it is paid off according to the Embassy in an email that we received from them responding to my questions as long as we show all proof of no balance, ownership, and a recent appraised value from a licenced appraiser (not one that you can just get off of the internet). They also said we can use one of the cars as well as long as we show the same details as for the house.

Thought adding the cars to the growing list it would help us, the value of the cars will pay for the shipping of our belongings and that of my beloved dog.

Guess no one has ever tried to include them, seems everyone just gets a co-sponsor, I won't and don't need one. I'm responsible for my hubby and him for me, no one else. Just thought someone in the world has tried and would share their experience with others. After all they are assets in the country we live in now, once we leave they will be sold, who's really going to ship a car over, only the ones that have money to burn, so why not include them, every little bit helps doesn't it? :)
