When do they take your Green Card?

Never asked us for our conditional cards, nor the EAD cards, sure demanded those ten year cards. Did have two negative side effects on my gals after they left the oath ceremony, both felt naked after being forced to carry it for years. Second was, they can't go anywhere until they get a US passport, more stress and money. Was a slap in the face to me when I learned they still have to maintain their foreign passport to enter and leave their home country.

Even our Department of State says they have to do that, but they call it dual naturalization that is pure unadulterated BS, its dual citizenship, you don't get a passport in your home country unless you maintain citizenship in that country. Indubitably contradicts that oath you just took, in particular:

"I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; "

You really can't abide by this statement if the Department of State puts your place of birth on your US passport and your home country will not admit you to visit your family even for a couple of days. But the Department of State is still a separate agency independent of the USCIS, both are supportingly under the jurisdiction of Homeland Security that was formed to bring the CIA and FBI closer together, DOS and the USCIS was an afterthought, just more idiots not knowing what the hell is going on. Plus the formation of even more agencies when having too many agencies was the problem in the first place. That's what this country gets by voting in a spoil brat draft dodging idiot into presidency. But having an opponent that was more interested in making billions on global warming wasn't too good for this country either.

Nevertheless, we have to pay the price for these idiots., crooks, or whatever you want to call them.

They took the card when I entered and went up to one of the windows. It was about 90 mins before I had something in my hand again. I was sitting there wondering what if the fire alarm goes off!
At a heavily Hispanic indoor flea-market locally, there were T-shirts for babies and children that said "Relax, Gringo -- I'm Legal!" on them (in Spanish or English, your choice). I could probably make a fortune selling those things in adult sizes at oath ceremonies, si man.

I wanted to buy one for 9-month-old Mini-Bone, but Mrs. T-B. put the kibosh on that, sigh man.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Would need a USCIS stamp on those tee-shirts to verify that legality, along with your photo and fingerprint, then you are just asking for trouble by bringing attention to yourself. But then it wouldn't be a couple of bucks at a flea market, more like 500 bucks. I agree with Mrs. T-B on this issue. Don't care for political signs plastered all over my yard either, good way to invite vandals.

Stepdaughters' wallet was stolen right before her interview, five bucks for a new student ID, SS card was free, 17 bucks for new drivers license. All this was done in her college town. But they only got a copy of her green card, her original was locked up. That would have been 400 bucks and a long wait with the USCIS. Having to carry that card does give you a complex that you have to overcome after citizenship. Don't need to carry anything.

How about only have that new ten year green card for only a couple of weeks and having it taken away from at your oath ceremony. After all the expense and stress to get it, and no prorating on the fees.
If they had to prorate the fees for this, then those such as myself (who used the "conventional" GC, and applied after five years should get back 50% of the visa-fees we were charged at Consulate or I-485).
Depending on if your are flying or driving, if the latter and certain bordering states can get a special drivers' license to get you into Canada. LOL, if living in Minnesota or North Dakota, a snowmobile will get you in and out.

Then why Christmas for get togethers? Had to work long hours with my job and just wanted to spend Christmas with my kids without a bunch of in-laws around, and travel during that time is insane. A couple of weeks after Christmas, everything is dead.

They take it because you are going in to get your Citizenship which nullifies the GC. They don't want you to keep it for fraud purposes so it's easier to collect when everyone is checking in to get their materials for the oath rather then doing it afterwards where people can easily slip out once getting their Citizenship Cert (especially a large ceremonies). Since the CG is government property, they decide when they want their property back. It's basically just on loan to you...
