right just to make something clear here... how the hell would they know if the OS was a pirate copy or not?? unless it says so when you boot up the computer then there is no way of knowing. my computer runs a pirate copy of windows and it is exactly the same as a legal copy... they will not be able to tell at all!!!!

Are you sure it's pirated, or is it Windows, and not 'Authenticated'?

You may have a perfectly legal copy of windows, but you need to go to Microsoft's web page and Authenticate it. There was an update not too long ago concerning Vista/XP/7 that after the update some lost the authenticated certificate on the machine.

they will not ask you to turn on your computer. I have friends that have entered the US with "pirate" cd's containing software, movies and they never had any issues.

Except that they won't play in the US.

We found out that if you buy pirated PS2 games in the RP, they won't work on a real PS2 player here.

Huh? I don't really think you have anything to worry about unless there is something else they're going to stop you for. Normally your laptop gets scnned with the luggage and shoes etc and away you go. Honestly they are not computer experts (they're security guards), how are they going to evaluate whether your copy of the OS is pirated or not?

Not really sure what to make of the story from the poster just above - wonder why thatperson was held for 6 hours...seems like there must have been something in question?

PS - if you have a guilty conscience do somethgin about it

If the Windows OS is pirate then it wont say it on the computer like "this is pirated software" its just gonna ask you to put in the valid CD Key. Just don't travel with the disc (or any other pirate disc) and you wont have nothing to worry about. they are gonna scan it in an x-ray machine that's all, just as all the other posts here says

Good Luck at your POE (just look out for Bill Gates and the Microsoft Police)

Why don't you also have a stolen laptop? You're stealing the work produced by software developers, so why not the hardware manufacturer as well? Is your car stolen too? Why is it okay to steal from Microsoft or Apple but not BMW?

i think by the time you get to the airport you will have the FBI, CIA, Interpol, and Bill Gates waiting for you

LoL :P

To OP - You'll be fine. It's not like the have the time to thoroughly investigate every computer that crosses the border to verify the content.

first they don't give a damn and second of all we're talking about the TSA..if you mention Windows to them they might think you're talking about the windows of the airplane..so no worries
