there is someone else on VJ from Scotland that has just had the same problem with a police certificate. they needed one from Australia but they got the wrong one. they attended the interview anyway and the embassy just approved him and told him that as soon as they receive the correct certificate they will issue the visa.

good luck

Why not ask if someone at the Malaysian Consulate will contact the appropriate department in Malaysia to where they said they forwarded the documentation, and see if they can ask about it's status. You may wish to verify the address they sent it to and see if it was sent somewhere differently. Did they send it through Diplomatic Pouch? Sometime that process takes an incredibly long time, although I would be surprised if they used it. How did you pay for it? Has that been 'activated'/cashed to show it has been received? Did the Embassy say how long such certificates take normally? Under the circumstances, you may wish to file for another certificate but see if there is some way you can use a tracking system - either through the method of payment or paying additional for a courier. I'm not sure if that is an option or not.

I hope you find out something useful soon.

Regardless, definitely go to the interview even if you lack this document. Bring along the evidence to show the steps you have taken to get it. If everything else is in order the most likely result is that they will not be able to make a decision until after they receive the police report. Once they get it, they should be able to approve the application and issue the visa (assuming the missing police certificate is the only problem).

Good luck.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I totally understand your frustration. The good news is they won't deny your visa based on this but they could delay it. It's your call what you want to do. If it's just too much for you to handle right now then wait it out and see what happens at the interview. Maybe you will be lucky because it was prior to your 18th birthday but be prepared for their answer... I wouldn't recommend flipping out on the CO though

Malaysiagirl was willing to try and help you too on the Malaysian end, you could send her a PM and ask for some advice.

@dan and jennie, that is what I am hoping for as a worst case scenario

@kathryn41 The payment went through as i had also rang the malaysian consulate in london to confirm, I also called the confirm that they had all the paperwork. They said to me that they faxed the appropriate paperwork which was apparently all the department in malaysia required because I was applying for a certificate of good conduct from within the UK as an expatriate that had lived in malaysia. They have everything they required from their list and have confirmed via phone that they have received all the paperwork. The process is only meant to take 1-2 months but they have said 2-3. The concern is that the last time I spoke to someone at the consulate in london they made a bit of a deal about the fact that I wasnt malay combined with the fact that when I rang malaysia the day before they said they had no paperwork for me.

@beejay Malaysian girl has been really helpful and I have been messaging her. She thought about ringing on my behalf but it wouldnt work as I need to deal with it directly etc.

Thanks for all the help folks because I am trying to remain chilled with the process but with the end so close I am more desperate than ever just to have it all squared away so that I can be with my fiance....sick of the back and forth lol

I think we all can relate and hope the best for you. It's these little hiccups at the end that can be the most frustrating and overwhelming because it can make you feel like this process won't ever end. But it will! Keep us updated and let us know if you get the certificate or how the interview goes.

Best of luck!

I am still so nervous about going to the interview on tuesday (22nd) lol But it is looking highly likely that I wont even get the paperwork from malaysia. I rang them this morning and they are requesting paperwork that I simply just do not have. I have emailed the necessary person and I am hoping to get more feedback from her but at this stage I would assume I am not getting it. I have asked her if she can confirm if it possible for me to get the paperwork or if it isnt that so that I can confirm with the embassy either way.

Does anyone know what happens in the event that you simply cannot get paperwork... if everything else is fine do you get the visa anyway?

Out of curiosity what document is the Malaysian government requesting from you?

Do you have any written communication with the Malaysian authorities? I know you have been calling but it might be worth it to try and write an email asking the same questions you have been asking over the phone so that you have their response in writing and then have something to show at the U.S. Embassy.

Again, sorry you are going through this but it will be up to the CO whether they are willing to waive the requirement.

I was finally given an email address for the woman in malaysia because trying to get her on the phone has proven very difficult. I just hope she replies to emails a lot quicker.

I sent them copies of the visas that I had in an old passport. That apparently isnt enough, there is apparently something else in my passport that is of the visa variety but I have been through the passport more than a few times reading the stamps and everyhing and there is nothing.

So I am not even sure what it is they are thinking for really because it doesnt really make sense. They were saying I should have been listed as a dependant on my fathers visa but there is no one listed but himself.
