Hi all,

My situation is rather weird. I was adopted by my grandparents when I was a baby but I was raised by my mother and step father. My real father is a loser. I have always told people my step father is my real father, including my wife. Will they pull up the old adoption records and ask questions about my biological father? I would rather my wife didn't know and save myself the humiliation.

Thanks if you can help

Most likely not unless it has a bearing with the petition. Are you the petitioner and became USC because of your stepfather?

Are you the petitioner or beneficiary? If the first, it likely won't come up. If you are the foreign beneficiary then yes, it will be mentioned.

Whether it comes up or not depends on the birth certificate and whether the G325a was completed accurately. That's true whether petitioner OR beneficiary. The devil is in the details here and we don't know the details.

If the grandparents are the names on the birth certificate, then those are the names to be used on the G325a, not the mother and step father. If the mother and natural father are on the birth certificate then those are the names to be used as parents on the G325a. Never lie on an immigration form. If the truth is inconvenient or embarrassing, so be it. Be truthful.

Sorry for not giving enough info guys.

I am the petitioner and my grandparents names are on the birth certificate I have used all my life. I was asking because when I was born before adoption, my real fathers name was on the birth certificate. However when I was adopted, my name was legally changed and grandparents names where put onto the certificate.

As I understand the old one is no longer valid, but I was just worried they would go digging and ask my wife about it and use it as a way to say our marriage is not real because I never told her this.

Thanks for all of your responses guys and ladies.

I am the petitioner but I am a citizen by birth.

That's good if you listed those same people on your G325a as your parents, instead of your real mother and step father. Otherwise, you still have a problem.
