No problem, as long as you do not have any international travel plans your passport can expire. When you go to your interview, just take your expired passport with you since they want to check your travel dates.

If you apply right now or in a month, you will be most likely done before Summer and hence have your interview in VA before you move to TX. I would suggest though that you send in your package as soon as possible since the Holiday season is coming up which could cause some delay in both delivery and processing.

One question though, has your greencard expired? Here is some info from the net (which I would suggest to double-check) in case your card has expired or is about to expire:

"If you have applied for naturalization more than six months prior to your card's expiration, you do not need to apply to renew your "Green Card". If you apply for naturalization less than six months prior to your card's expiration or you do not apply for naturalization until your card has already expired, you must renew your Green Card."

Great, the sooner you send it the better. I assume you are applying based on 5-year residency, so all that you need to submit are:

1. Filled out N-400 form

2. Photocopy of front and back of greencard

3. Two passport-type photographs

4. Check for the application fee

Best of luck!

Generally spouses of military personnel get preferential treatment. May also get some help from JAG with filing if they have an immigration attorney hanging around. No law that states you have to have a current valid passport, but you did need one to come here a long time ago. As suggested, bring along your old passport book to verify any trips you have made in the last five years. But if you didn't make any, won't need it.

That list nw submitted is complete, just those four items is all you need to send in. Good luck in getting a decent IO.

Nothing to be scared of. I am pretty sure you will have a straight case and you will get approved. The most important rule is that you disclose everything and do not misrepresent any information when filling out your N-400 form.
