Fiancee Accompanying Fiance to the Interview

I'm wondering if there is any clear benefit to accompanying my fiance to CDJ, Mexico for his K1 Visa Interview at the consulate. He is worried about it being so dangerous there now and doesn't want me to go. Is there a benefit? I realize I can't be present during the interview. Thanks!

I might be sounds sexist, but usually fiancee needs more support during the interview (especially when period comes). It does not mean I said women more weak or men more stronger.

Men more have egos when come about support and protective, they wanted to protect their loved ones, and don't want seem weak. But now is up to you to be there. My fiance voluntereed himself to come when I have my interview in the future and I am happy he does so. Good luck.

I plan on going with my fiance to his interview when it gets scheduled. Both because he wants me to and just in case they have any questions, I'll be right there to answer them. Either way I think it is a personal decision for you and your finace. No other benefit will come from it.

If it wasn't dangerous for you to go, then I would say go for it, but I guess you have to decide. I have many friends from Mexico and from dangerous parts, and I have seen how it can be, so I would not take it lightly if he says its not a good idea. He'll be ok either way

It actually goes a lot further than you may think. For us it's going to be a pain b/c we have young kids and there's no way they're coming with us to Juarez. So we will probably have to fly someone to Mexico to stay with our kids and that in itself is going to be complicated. But I want to go with her mainly because 1) I am the one who has done all the homework on this thing the past 6 years or so and I know what to expect going into Juarez and I'd be that much more prepared for whatever wild card they can and will throw at us during the process 2) Moral Support as previously mentioned and 3) Although she's the Mexican, I'm the guy and she's the girl. If the roles were switched, maybe it would be different. But I refuse to let her go there by herself.

I had fears initially about going too and I'm the guy! Mainly, I was afraid that if I went, I wouldn't fit in since I'm not Mexican and would only draw unwanted attention to myself and my fiancee; especially since there aren't a lot of foreigners in that part of Mexico. I wanted to be there for her though and I went. You should read my review here: My review. I explain about the safety, the hotels, and what it's like there. We ended up going to the mall and to the movies and the hotel we stayed at was very nice. I won't deny that Juarez is dangerous, but I found the area around the consulate to be safe. If it weren't for the news, I wouldn't have noticed that it was different than any other part of Mexico I've been to. Tell him not to worry, you will both be fine and good luck!

Thanks so much for this very informative reply. I will definitely read your review. And I agree that media portrayal and reality can sometimes differ. Especially in certain areas such as the area of a consulate or highly touristed areas.Thanks!

I was 99% sure beforehand that I was going to accompany my fiance (now husband) to his interview, but in the end, I decided not to. It was so expensive to fly directly into CDJ that I would have had to fly into El Paso and take taxis by myself over the border (since I'm the female crossing, I felt a bit uncomfortable doing so) and it didn't make sense to spend $500 for me to do that when we could use that money towards AOS, and also risk my safety, although I've lived in dangerous parts of Mexico and didn't feel THAT worried, it was still a concern.

In the end my now-hubby did fine on his own. I couldn't have gone with him to anything, anyway, but I'm sure he would have loved the support. Especially since there was a minor snag at the end of the interview and my fiance didn't get a decision right away (you can read our review, too). That was when I really felt bad and wished I would have been there to hug him in that moment.

Nonetheless, it all worked out, and we have a little extra money to put towards AOS. If you can swing it financially, and you think it is important to your fiance that you be there to support him in case things get tough, I say, go for it. It's dangerous but stay smart and you'll be fine. If you want to save several hundred bucks to put towards the $1,000+ AOS process...consider that too =)

I guess if you don't have any kids (K2 visa) or previous marriages that might trigger the consulate wanting to interview the petitioner, as in my case (you can also see my review) it is not necessary for the petitioner to be at the interview. I just got back on monday (oct 24) from our 2nd trip to CDJ and I felt very safe around the consulate area. It does help not being alone, my fiance confessed that she would have fallen for the scam the coyotes pull on you outside the medical clinic.

That has been on of my concerns, scam artists that stand around the consulate. If I can't come I guess I just really have to underscore this fact with my fiance.
