DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY ENCORAGING WORDS ABOUT WHEN SHE CAN WORK AFTER COMING IN ON A

K-1? I KNOW SHE CAN GET TEMP PERMISSION TO WORK BUT THAT 'RESETS' AFTER THE 90 DAY VISA STAY, MAKING IT NOT SO WORTH IT... BUT AFTER THAT (ONCE THE WEDDING GOES DOWN), HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET AN EAD.?

THANKS

I filed EAD along with AOS and AP paperwork. It took about 4 months.

Mine took just 64 days from filing....and because we got married during the first week of my arrival, it was 74 days from my entry into the US. I did get the temp. EAD at JFK so I started working immediately and was able to continue with no problem.

As I understand it they no longer stamp the passports with EAD approvals and havent done so since about summer 2005. When I asked at my K1 interview about the stamp he told me at the Embassy that the entry points ability to authorize work no longer exists, and when I crossed in Detroit they told me the same. I cannot verify with 100% certainty if this is true, it may be only certain areas that dont do it, I am not sure. Your best bet is dont expect them to authorize work immediately and plan ahead for that 3-4 months when she cannot work.

On that note after I got married I filed for my AOS, EAD and AP at the same time and it took 3-4 months to finally get my EAD card, but I also pushed it as well. When I got my letter to go for my biometrics for the AOS I had heard nothing about my EAD, I brought my letter with me as well for my EAD so they were nice enough to process both my AOS and EAD at the same time, I then received the EAD 2 weeks later. Had I not asked I would of had to wait even longer then 3-4 months.

If you arrive at JFK and they give you an EAD, and you have a social security #, yes, you can. BUT the EAD you get at the airport is only vailid for 90 days. from date of entry. You'll then have to quit that job until you get your 1 year EAD (which you apply for after you get married and do AOS). So you might be able to get 2 months of work in before you have to quit for a few months.

That is unless of course you find something "off the books" :-)

Do they give you an EAD card or stamp at SFO airport?

I have a question about all this...

Is there not a 90 day time limit in which your EAD is supposed to be issued??

If they do not issue within this amount of time, can you schedule an infopass appointment to get an interim EAD?

My situation is I have an employer that wants to employ me and will wait the 90 days, but everyone seems to be past the 90 days when they recive their EAD>

So, if I am assertive and pro-active, would it be smart of me to schedule an infopass appointment a few weeks before the 90 days are up?

I just want keep this employer..know what I mean. So what's the deal with the 90 days? My DO is Boston and I hear they are slower.

I neeeeeeeeeeed to work.

Ok I feel better now, thanks!

I could be wrong, but it's a 90 day 'validity" on the temp EAD you get at POE. It's not a 90 day limit they have to issue one.

As everyone here can attest, they put no limits on how much time you should wait for anything that has to do with immigration.

I am pretty sure I read that the EAD is supposed to be processed within 90 days of your NOA. I'll have to recheck later but that's the assumption I've been going on.

supposedly, if you apply for EAD, and you do not receive it within 90 days, you can make an info pass appointment at the nearest office, and go in on the 91st day, and they will give you one on the spot, that is valid for 90 days.

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.
