Submission of Supporting Documents - Original vs. Photocopy - If a supporting document is prepared by the issuing authority solely for the purpose of presentation to USCIS, an applicant or petitioner must submit the original document with the application or petition. Examples of supporting documents which must be presented in the original are:

Translations of documents (even when the rules allow submission of a photocopy of the document itself.)

My understanding from other sorces like the imigration office in Lawrence, MA and from calling imigration on the telephone tells me that copies of the originals are okay.

So what is going on? they are telling me two different things!!

please help because I have to submit my application right away.

Yes - they will accept copies, unless they specifically ask for originals.

Since they are asking for original translations, you must provide them as needed.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

Will a copy of the original mariage certificate translation be okay when sending in the I-130 application?

Yes, a copy is sufficient, as long as it's certified.

thanks for your help... the original translation is Certified.

that's what you mean when you say certified, correct?

because I will be making high quality color copies of all the documents myself with my Canon printer/scanner.

and the passport photo copies will be done at a photo lab.

The trick is to comply; with what they want, certified translation. Always take originals and a good copy to the interview.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.

Certified documents usually have a statement to that effect.

"this document is certified to be original" or something similar. Sometimes they have a stamp/seal.

Yes, a copy is sufficient, as long as it's certified.

This could be misleading. When filing a petition, you include a photocopy of a certified copy of a marriage certificate. If that is not in English, you provide a photocopy of a certified translation. The meaning of certified is different for the actual certificate than for the translation.

The "Original" certified copy of the certificate and, if needed the original certified translation will be sent in at the NVC stage.

Certified documents usually have a statement to that effect.

"this document is certified to be original" or something similar. Sometimes they have a stamp/seal.

Yes, but when filing the petition, you send a photocopy of that certified copy.
