First and foremost, get yourself enrolled in some additional English classes. Maybe your spoken English is better, but your written English needs a lot of improvement. Not trying to be rude, but this could really affect your chances of getting a job in a very competitive market.

Often times the messenger is judged unfairly by the quality of communication and therefore the message is discounted or overlooked. It would be a great boost to be fluent in both written and spoken English. The vocabulary doesn't have to be enormous just precise enough to get across what you're trying to communicate. Best of luck in the States and try and not get frustrated, English isn't the easiest language to get all the nuances.

Yes, most American's fail miserably.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

I see said the blind man, as he picked up his hammer and saw.........many times there are words with two or more meanings spelled the same..........I've tried some foreign languages and they for the most part make sense......English is all over the board once you get away from the basics.

You're right Mr bob, english has different schemes of application and practice...don't forget the american proverb "when in Rome do as the Romans do"It means that each one can use his language within the system of accomodation and adaptation.

Certainly, every one has his/her own skill of using english, moreover, the original language affects the shape of the second language(see sapir whorf hypothesis books)

Finally,I can assume that the person can improve his/her own skill by the way of meeting and contacting foreigners people of that language.

Not an American Proverb:

Robert Burton's The Anatomy of Melancholy was first published in 1621. Burton makes oblique reference to the phrase, without using it explicitly:

...like Mercury, the planet, are good with good, bad with bad. When they are at Rome, they do there as they see done, puritans with puritans, papists with papists

But its origins are much older.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Generally speaking it's an american proverb ,although it has a deep origins.

What I want to explain to yu is that the person can be engaged in social comunication and human ethics of such community by means of the language which can lead to the term of integration and polarization of much people ,consequently, the person will be an essential element of society.

Take care friend,

Take care friend,

Generally speaking, it's an old English proverb. Americans have never had any direct dealings with Rome, so it would be foolish to assume that simply because the proverb came from English speakers, that it is in American proverb.

The English also never had any direct dealings with Rome -- the tribes populating what we now consider Britain were Celtic and are considered Britons, not proto-Englishmen. They also certainly did not speak anything like the Germanic tongue we now speak. The earliest forms of English didn't really arise until the Anglo-Saxons arrived, which was after the Romans had for all intents and purposes left Britain.

The saying is attributed to St Ambrose, who I suspect had little or nothing to do with Britain.
