HOW TO GET DOCUMENT THAT STATES IM SINGLE????

I had to provide such documents when I was in the process of getting married in the Netherlands and each state in the USA handles the process a bit differently. I had to perform this process for NY and FL.

Basically what you need to do is request a record search in that state for a marriage certificate bearing your name, when the record search returns negative you basically acquire a 'certificate of non-marriage'

Usually the department of health and human services holds these records, or the department of state. I would inquire in California which governmental department keeps the marriage records in that state and ask them to perform a record search with your name. Also, since the document is to be used outside of the United States, it is not unreasonable to consider that you may require an apostille for the certificate, since it is a government record that is to be used in a foreign country.

My soon to be wife told me today that I will be needing a document showing that Im single and not married I live in California how do get this document or how do I go about this. do I go to the civil registry in my county to ask for such a document? All your comments will be appreciated.

Thank you in advance

alex

I believe the document that you need is called a "Certificate of No Impediment" and you can get it at the registrar's office in the county in which you live. Basically, it is just a "freedom to marry" certificate and proves that you are not currrently married to anyone. They are very common. I needed one as well. Good luck and God bless.

This is what you are looking for. an Affidavit of single status or affidavit of marriageability. For China there is a form that I downloaded from the Chinese consulate site. I would imagine that Mexico has the same. If not, google affidavit of single status and use a generic form. Note that you will need to have it notarized and appostilized (a certification from the CA sec state that the notary is valid).

Man, I got married in Mexico in 2006 and it was a hassle and I really can't remember exactly how I got this. They asked for dozens of different things, but if memory serves, I think you can get this from your county clerk. It would be a good place to start in any case.

It is a hassleª

Fell in love on a missions trip in 2005, got married in 07, got pregnant and started IR1 visa process in 08, had baby number 2 in 10, and its now 2011, and we are just now finally getting to the end of this long road. (The mail from the embassy never arrives to my home, causing us trouble. Fingers crossed and prayers going up! Both kids born and raised in Mexico and American citizens by CRBA:

His Appointement is October 25th!

In the Philippines this what they call it , i dont know in Mexico but posting this may somehow give you and idea. from US EMBASSY ,MANILA

Affidavit in Lieu of a Certificate of Legal Capacity to Contract MarriageCertificate of Legal Capacity to Contract Marriage

Any foreigner who wishes to marry in the Philippines is required by the Philippine Government to obtain from his/her Embassy a "Certificate of Legal Capacity to Contract Marriage" before filing an application for a marriage license. This certification affirms that there are no legal impediments to the foreigner marrying a Filipino (i.e, that the foreigner is already married to someone else). Unlike the Philippines, the U.S. Government does not keep a central statistical registry for births, marriages and deaths and cannot verify this information. Instead, the Philippine Government accepts an "Affidavit in Lieu of a Certificate of Legal Capacity to Contract Marriage." Americans may execute this affidavit at the American Embassy in Manila or the U.S. Consular Agency in Cebu. Personal appearances of the American citizen applicant cannot be waived, but the fiance(e) need not be present. Philippine authorities will not accept any substitute document initiated in the United States.

Applicants may apply for the "Affidavit in Lieu of a Certificate of Legal Capacity to Contract Marriage" at the Embassy's American Citizen Services Branch by appointment only. There is a fee of $50.00 or its peso equivalent for the affidavit, payable in cash only.

I think everyone has covered what I was going to say, I had to get a Single Status Affadavit before I could marry my wife in Malaysia. I received this document from US Embassy in Malaysia about 2 weeks before the wedding. Just contact the embassy either in her country or yours and it should be easy to obtain.

I live in California. I married in the UK earlier this year and I had to bring a "Record of no Record".

The State of CA dos not keep any vital statistics. Nor does the Federal Gov. in the USA.

Go to your COUNTY REGISTRAR Office aka "Country Records". Ask them to do a 15 year search on your name to see if they have records of you having been married. They will issue you a signed certificate that states there is no record in their database of you having been married. You have to pay for the certificate.

This is your ticket to show you are single.

Yes, it is ridiculous, because you could have been married in any of the 57 other counties, or in any other state, but nobody seems to care about that.

My husband is about to have his interivew next week, and the issue of my marriage eligibility has NEVER been a problem.

Hope I get that lucky also. Thanks again for all the great info!!!!

Just as a heads-up, unless the requirements have changed, before you get married in Mexico you'll also need to get an apostille for your birth certificate in the United States (if you aren't in the US a parent or someone can get this for you from whereever they issue birth or death certificates in your county), undergo a physical exam in Mexico, take an AIDS test in Mexico, attend a course on marriage provided by the Mexican government and file a petition in Mexico requesting to marry a Mexican citizen. The petition used to cost around $250 USD and requires you to prove that you earn sufficient income which in Mexico isn't too hard.

Not trying to bring you down at all, but just leting you know so you can be prepared. That's what I had to go through but it could ave changed since then. It's really not as much of a pain as it sounds (well, yeah it kinda is) but mostly just takes time.
