i think you are hijacking this thread.. start your own thread so you can get the correct answers that you seek

I am sorry. I shouldn't do this. Thanks,

You will likely be denied at the K-1 interview if you tell them your going to have a big wedding in Taiwan.

Side note.

You cannot use the K-1 after you get married in Taiwan, you are to marry in the USA on a K-1. Your AOS will be denied because you must provide a marriage certificate at the time of AOS. They will obviously see you used the K-1 to enter married because your marriage certificate will be from Taiwan and not the USA like the requirements state for AOS from a K-1.

That's what I thought. We might postpone the weeding in Taiwan after she is able to travel again. Thanks for the tip!!

DO NOT DO IT!

Not even a non-civil ceremony. The complexity of marriage law in this country is crazy. Some states don't even require a license to consider a marriage valid! Just wait!

I am cancelling my church ceremony in Europe do avoid the complications.

This is sound advice. Anything that to an outsider could remotely be thought of as a wedding should be avoided.

Ok thank you everyone. I just wanted to make sure what I told my fiancee was correct. The only thing we can do is have a ceremony in the Philippines that does not include a legal marriage.

Thanks again and also for the quick replies.

i was reading this and thought you might need a reminder: make sure you/your fiancee does not submit/ bring any photos of(or even mention) that "ceremony" to the interview. many couples have had the difficulty to explain that no marriage occured during those ceremony-looking photos. and not to scare you, but some were denied because of one seemingly harmless photo. i just want you to be careful =)

Why don't you just throw a big engagement party? That's what me and my fiance did. There's still a celebration but it won't screw up your application.

Does anyone know what would happen if one were to get married before their fiancee visa was approved? My exact situation is that I have received my first NOA for a fiancee visa (k1), but my fiancee in the Philippines has expressed her desire for us to get married in the Philippines. Will we have to wait until she is issued her visa to come to America and then marry in the Philippines? I feel as though a marriage that occurs before the fiancee visa is issued would be frowned upon by USCIS. Am I correct?

I think you can have the religious ceremony in the Philippines, but legal marriage has to be in the US for k1 visa holders.

This would still make you married, therefore not eligible for the K1 visa.

A religious ceremony makes you married also. Now just what constitutes a "legal marriage?"

I only know of two types of ceremonies, religious or civil.

to me... legal = civil, but maybe I'm wrong

you can have a religious ceremony without signing any papers... like a blessing

this is just my opinion

Just because there are no papers signed does not make the person not married. In the eyes of the church, the priest, his fiancee and the attendees, they would be married.

I believe that PI is one of the hard countries where lots of questions are asked and AP is fairly common. If the CO calls and asks her parents if they are married what would they say. They would tell the CO that they saw their daughter get married in a beautiful ceremony in a church. It is a very bad thing to ask people to LIE to the CO for any reason.

That would make the K-1 Visa application invalid because they are married. This would also cost them time (they would have to re-apply for CR-1) and in trying to legalize their first ceremony in the PI because they didn't sign the paperwork. It would cost them money to re-apply.

An engagement ceremony could appease the fiancee, her family and community and still keep everything on the up and up for the interview.

Its a Bad idea all around!

If discovered this can greatly affect your K-1 visa application or even get you denied an have to start over, and possibly take even longer. Just play it safe and wait till eveything is done, its not like your fiancee is going to run away or anything lol

I understand what you're saying... I agree and lying is really unacceptable and will cause problems.

What I posted is MY OPINION and from the beginning I said "I THINK"....

Maybe some kind of pre-wedding celebration would be a good option... the engagement has to happen before k1 is filed, right?
