Hello, my husband was approved in Sept. I have to send proof of a CD Investmant acct. What is the best proof I can send? He turned in the new I864 as I am sponsoring him. All I had where copies of my online banking and a copy from the bank and they did not accept. They are asking for another sponsor. I do not know anyone that can help. My parents are on SS and they do not qualify plus they did not do 2010 income taxes. What else can I send as they are asking for another sponsor because I do not meet the income. Any help greatly appriciated. Thanks, Cecy

They didn't accept the copies, or they didn't accept because you didn't have enough $$ in the CD account--very different situations. Remember that assets have to be 3X the minimum income level. So for example, let's say your income was $5000 short, you would need $15,000 in your CD to make up the difference, and if it just barely covers the difference, it is common for the CO to want more income or assets or a joint sponsor, so take a hard look at your financials to see if you make the cut, and by how much.

Oh sorry, I did not clarify. THere is $29,000.00 in the CD acct. I believe they just did not acept the copies. So they asked for a new sponsor. Can I just send them this bank letter showing how much is in each acct? Or do you suggest I find a new sponsor? Thank you

Well, the $29K needs a haircut--it is only "worth" about $10K in meeting the minimum income test...if your income plus the $10K isn't enough, or it is barely enough, then you will need another sponsor.

A bank letter is usually required when they doubt the source of your funds. For example, a large deposit made let's say a month ago might be questioned if they thought maybe a friend gave you the money to boost your account balance, and then you will give it back later. Each bank is different, but you can ask for a bank letter that shows not just the balance, but when you opened the account, when you deposited the money, etc, etc.

Now if my father makes enough with his pension and SS (28000.00)can he sponsor him? My dad does his taxes joint with my mom, but she only gets abot $7500.00 a yr in SS. My father actually makes about 28000.00 in both a yr alone. Would he be filling the form out and will my mom need to fill it out as well? not sure how that would work. Thanks and sorry to be such a bother.

Also I am only short $1300.00 for the yr and how he is my spouse I believe it must be X3 only.

Sounds like the CO wants more total income plus assets, so the bank letter might not be enough unless his real issue was whether or not the $$ were really yours. I'd ask your parents if they will sponsor him, and if so, you can start down that path. Read about I-864 and I-864A to see which applies to your situation, and fill out a sample copy with your parent's information to see if everything works.

Thank you, my parents do not live with me. So I think they need to fill out the I864. Is this correct? Also if they do joint taxes, would I need both there information(signature) or just my fathers(as in copy of there citizenship certificate and ID, they do not have a passport. Thanks

Not an option. If you receive alimony, that's a different story (it's considered income and you would have to report it on your taxes).

Skiptex is 100% correct, child support is strictly for your kids, nothing else.

I understand it is for my kids, I DO provide for them. Not that I go and party or spend it all on me. But it is income it was a simple question. Thank you for all your responses. :)
