I'm self-employed. I've filed and paid 2010 taxes (form 1040) and all previous years. However, there may be penalties owed for this year and previous years. What do I have to show immigration, and might these amounts owed negatively impact the process? Anyone here have experience in this area?

12/24/2010 I proposed. She accepted and stayed.

02/25/2011 Married!

03/19/2012 FINALLY submitted the AOS paperwork: I-130, I-485, I-765, etc.

03/23/2012 Received notification that USCIS has received everything.

03/26/2012 Biometrics Appointment Notice: April 23, 2012.

04/02/2012 NOA's received. Now we wait...

04/23/2012 Biometrics completed.

05/18/2012 EAD card mailed but not yet received.

06/06/2012 Rough interview but we think we're approved! Website says i485 status "Card Production".

06/12/2012 We received the "Welcome the United States" letters! Website says Green Card was mailed.

LIMBO: Green card lost in mail. Facing the possibility of paying hundreds in fees and basically repeating the entire process.

All good now! USPS lost it, then found it.

04/24/14 Back to VJ to get help with I-751, Removal of Conditions.

05/31/14 Mailed I-751 finally, with less than a week to deadline!

06/02/14 NOA1 (that was fast!)

07/01/14 Biometrics

7/25/14 Approved for Removal of Conditions

What matters is that you are in good standing with the IRS. If they tell you that you need to send 'em another check, that's still in good standing. If they tell you that they will come to your house, take your car and make your life a living hell, then you are not in good standing.

You'll need the 1040s, first and foremost. If you have W2s and 1099s, it doesn't hurt to have them ready as well.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Thanks! I have the 1040's. We are having a little okay big disagreement over 2008, which is in the process of being sorted, but all taxes are filed and paid!

If you are on a payment plan for any owed amount that ought to be ok. If there is a judgement of a chunk owed that may be deducted from the income amount shown on line 22 of your tax return.

Hey Ataribaby, my husband is self employed. He only showed the last two years. We just got approved for my green card last week.

He is on a payment plan for this year and they didn't care about that either.

As long as you show adequate support I'm sure you will be fine.

09/04/2010 - Married

08/01/2011 - Sent in Packet

08/16/2011 - NOA for I485, I130, I765

09/07/2011 - Still no Biometrics letter. Called to request Biometrics appointment.

09/26/2011 - Interview appointment letter received, scheduled for 10/27/2011.

10/03/2011 - Biometrics appointment finally received.

10/07/2011 - Successful Biometrics walk-in completed.

10/07/2011 - Text and email notification, EAD Card/Document production.

10/17/2011 - Received EAD in the mail.

10/27/2011 - Interview - APPROVED on the spot

11/04/2011 - Green card received in the mail
