K1 Visa process and what's next

Hi all,

Finally made it to the US! Thank you all for your help and support!

Now, a few simple questions:

1) I've changed the address on the USCIS site, since we've moved right away. I did this online, correct?

2) Should the SSN process be first before the marriage certificate, or the other way around?

3) On the SSN application, if not married yet, it's asking for her name to be displayed on the SSN card. Should we be using her soon-to-be married last name?

You can get SSS in two weeks, after entry, name needs to be as on passport and K1 visa. Make marriage plans, have fun apply for AOS. Your order your choice on SSS and Marriage.

Do your Social Security before the marriage, it will be in her maiden name and match the documents for the Visa. Once married, take your marriage certificate (not the license - anyone can get those) and have the card updated with her marital name, so it matches for the next steps. Good luck.

And do we have to wait a certain amount of time to apply for SSN after POE or is there no time requirement?

No time requirement - all this happens fast. Once you land and have passports/visas stamped, you need to get to the SS office and probably after that it's a good iea to get a State ID card as well. Then you still have to get married in the allotted time and once again change the SS card and State ID.

It's my understanding that you should wait about a week before going to the SS office. But don't wait to long after that. If it gets to close to the date on the I-94 they won't issue one.
