The marriage is in USA to be US Citizen in the USA. the application process is done by Americans, so, they need to make sure and do their research regardless of where the finance is coming from and treat each case as a potential fraud.

But the Visa interview happens int he Philippines and the applicant is Filipino, Philippine Cultural Standards prevail...

But I do want to thank you for demonstrating exactly why VJers shouldn't bother commenting on threads asking country specific questions when they know nothing about the standards observed in that country.

If the age difference is culturally acceptable then it won't raise any red flags at the Embassy interview.

My teen was telling me before I met my future hubby that the Cougar Rule is half my age plus 7, or else I'm a cougar. :innocent:

Does that work for guys?

Sounds like a reasonable formula, but what I'd really like to know is why older women who chase younger men get a cool sounding moniker like "cougar", while men are usually called "cradle robber" or "perv".

BTW, according to the Urban Dictionary:

cradle robber

A person who taps people significantly younger than he/she is. If X is the older person's age then they are a cradle robber if they date a person who is less than half of their age plus 7 years. But for this function to work, X must be greater than or equal to 18. (Y = .5X + 7 X:18,infinity))

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=cradle+robber

I guess your formula works.

There is "granpa", and "sugar daddy", but I prefer "lucky" and "soon-to-be-recently-deceased". For the youngin's themselves, there is "gold digger", "grave robber", and a few other epitaphs that if they don't trigger the word censor, they probably should.

I just filed the K-1 VISA documents. My fiancée and I have an age difference. I am 60 and she is 21. She is from the Philippines. I have her parents consent and never been happier. All documents are in order. I am very concerned that age will be a factor in the interview. Please comment!

Happy New Year!

OMG! Yes he did make a thread. But he never stated the age difference. Now says he's 60 and she is 21 years old. Well, I won't judge but he will need the parents permission. My personal opinion is not countable but where do you draw the line?

This sets a record for age difference I've ever seen. I'm an OLD FART at 50 and my Finacee' is 33. I've seen more vaste age differences. You say the Parents agree and Documents in order meaning: You make the money to purchase a 21 year old.

How is this going to function in American Society? Americans are sick hunting for a child Overseas. This is WRONG. And YOU KNOW IT. As I said: Just where should a line be drawn about Americans going Overseas and take advantage of these young ladies.

I hope for your Approval of your Petition and get exactly what you asked for. I don't mean to be Negative but this is to much for me to handle. Let her go and find another closer to your age. That would mean you care about her.

Quite frankly, I dont think its proper for a 60yr man and a 21 yr to be together. I dont buy the love connection myth of couples with such age gaps.. sorry, either she's completely naive or you purposely are seeking a girl who is 3x younger than you, and resorting to foreigner to fufill your wishes..

I don't see anything wrong with that. She is 21, she is mature, you love her and she loves you; that's what matters. Some people might not like the idea, based on their own personal believes and cultures, but who cares. They don't pay your rent nor put food on your table; they have no right to judge you. It's your life, marry her, be happy and make her happy. Good luck

First of all , this is a public forum. If someone can't handle an opinion to a topic which they are seeking advice, shouldn't be asked. Criticism is not a bad thing, but it makes someone realize a different perspective. The USCIS examiners always assume each application has a potential fraud case because they are trained to look for that. If they didn't, K1 visa process would be 1 week long, piece of cake, no worries. BUT its NOT, because US government wants some level of assurance sure that marriages wont be shams and girls coming here aren't being exploited or victimized.

Now, to the gentlemen who posted the question.

Correct. It is his life and his fiance's decision. But his question asked, will this raise a flag in the eyes of USCIS, and I would have to say it certainly will. Regardless of where the girl is coming from, she will be living in the USA under the norms of this country, where it's not normal for a girl of such an age to marry a gentleman of his age. When the K1 application is looked at and such an age disparity is given, more scrutiny will be placed and questions raised.

My advice to the gentleman. I hope he has a bulletproof petition with several trips to his fiancee, pictures with her family and letters of intent attesting to the relationship. Good luck to him
