I-130 Speedy Approval

Hi All,

My wife and I submitted an i-130 to the USCIS and got our NoA1 on the 15th Oct, we checked the status of our application last night on the USCIS website using our USCIS receipt number and it now says:

"On October 20, 2011, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I130 IMMIGRANT PETITION FOR RELATIVE, FIANCE(E), OR ORPHAN. Please follow any instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283."

Does this seem right? From reading it looks like this is our NoA2 and should have been about 5 months between NoA1 and NoA2.

Am I missing something? Or can I get excited at this point?

Regards,

Tim

Thanks for the speedy reply! Sorry to hear it's taken a while with you. I'm wondering if it's because my wife and I have been living together in Australia for the last 3 years and have rental agreements, joint bank accounts etc. as evidence. Still, I'm stoked that it's so fast. How long does it usually take to get through the NVC part? Is the USCIS part usually the longest part?

Thanks again!

Tim

Did you file at the embassy there...DCF?

No. We read about DCF about a week before they changed and removed the option for countries without a USCIS office. So we ended up posting to the application to the USCIS in the US. They forwarded to California office for processing and the case status got updated to 'Approved' 6 days later! It's insane really...

OP, congrats, you were one of the lucky ones to obtain a speedy approval. The fact that you live overseas is not a factor.

To answer your question about the NVC, recently it has taken approximately 1 month from NOA2 to the time the file is entered into the system at the NVC and a case number generated (and the accompanying bills).

Our journey:

Thanks Ryan. How do you know when the NVC receive the package? I noted that on the timeline, however I'm not sure if they notify us when they receive it?

You will have to call them, don't wait for them to notify you. Allow one week for your file to arrive at the NVC before calling. When you call, the operator can tell you if has arrived (and the date it arrived).

Great. Thanks for the info!

James' shortcuts at NVC, Ling Che's NVC Shortcut , or Loto's "How to bring a Spouse to US" One or all of these should give you a good handle on NVC. Best of luck!!
