I'm headed to Chile for 2 weeks vacation. I know it will be fine to use my expired GC + extension letter to come back through the US border upon landing back here. I am just looking for reassurance I won't have a problem boarding in Chile. Any experiences there? I'm flying with Delta.

I've heard some check-in counters aren't familiar with the extension letter and I want to be prepared just in case. What's the procedure if there is a problem? To just keep asking for the matter to be escalated? Is there a certain person at an airline to ask for?

Do you think it is worth getting an I-551 stamp in my passport just for back up? Should I get this anyway in case I lose my extension letter? Will they even stamp it if the letter is not due to expire soon? Is there any reason to NOT get the stamp?

Thanks in advance for your advice. Even if it is to tell me to stop worrying :) (I can't help it!)
