This is kind of a backwards request, but I have read many threads on here and could use advice from some of you fine VJ teachers. My fiance and I just received our K1 visa and I'm planning to move down there to start a life and family with him. He recently graduated with his teaching credential, but lives in California where the job market is abysmal. I'm scared to move down without one of us having a decent career to start.

We've discussed moving to a different state, and I was hoping some of you might have resources for teachers to find jobs in your state. I'm really not sure where to start. I found a website for edjoin.org (California teachers) on this forum and I was hoping others could give me a similar resource for different states or for the entire country.

I'd really appreciate any advice anyone has as well.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read :)

Unfortunately, the situation is very bad for teachers in the US right now. Schools in the US are financed primarily through individual states and local property taxes. With the recession in the US, state treasuries are low and cuts have to be made. School funding is being cut in almost every school district.

My girlfriend has her teaching credentials and can't find a full time teaching job. Another friend who has been teaching for 10 years is afraid she may lose her job after this school year. Another friend got an offer in Arizona and moved within 2 days. She left everything in California and came back from her job to move a few weeks later.

Sorry, I couldn't help. I wanted to share the information I had.

Thanks for your input. We're thinking of him moving up here if we can't find him a stable income (right now he subs and works retail). I have a stable career with a modest income. It just sucks to reconsider after getting through this entire process. Ah well, hopefully he can find something

Thank you very much for the links! These look great!

I got my first teaching job through Teachers-Teachers.com. There are always jobs listed. I had several principals calling me around the first of the school year. Maybe it won't be his ideal location, but it is his foot in the door.

He can also just google teacher jobs in his field, and he will find lots of listings.

That's what I was thinking. He's so discouraged and feels like there are no opportunities for him. His subject area is Social Studies. I'm trying to encourage him and find out information so he can, as you say, get his foot in the door. Even if he can get a job teaching somewhere else it would give us time and money so he can get other certifications (he was thinking of doing math or science since there are more jobs in that field).

I'm going to send him these links and some other stuff I found tonight. So excited :)!

My fiance (USC) is a Social Studies teacher. He just graduated (in June/2011) so he has no actual experience aside from student teaching. He was really successful and would make a great teacher if he were given an opportunity to get in the classroom. Right now we have both agreed that he should look at teaching jobs anywhere, so we are open to relocating! I would appreciate any assistance you have :)

here is LINK for the 20 Regions by location for Texas Education Agency..

http://www.tea.state.tx.us/index.aspx?id=2147494810

each Region has a link..

click the Link.. look for the SCHOOLS

they will have ALL School Districts by COUNTY..

each District will have its own Links for INDIVIDUAL schools OR the HR department for the District..

a district is usually One City and Surrounding areas.. depending on SIZE of District.. it could be 1 high school, 1 middle schools, 1 elementary..

OR

Austin Texas

has 10 plus High schools.. lots more Middle School and EVEN more ELEMENTARY..

http://www.tea.state.tx.us/index2.aspx?id=5830&menu_id=865&menu_id2=794

this link is for TEACHER CERTIFICATION for State of Texas..

Schools want to hire Certified Teachers first.. BUT if they are in a bind and REALLY NEED the teacher.. they can hire uncertified teacher.. with the stipulation you will work on your certification.. this link tells you how to go about that..

Wow so glad to find this thread. Moving my husband (a teacher from New Zealand, he's taught for 14 years!) to Virginia in March. Hoping we can get him a teaching job, he's willing to do other things but he LOVES teaching. :-) Good luck finding work, everyone! :-)

I often see jobs in Virginia. Good luck to him. You might also try to see if they have a state application site, like they do in North Carolina, that covers jobs throughout the state. I was recently interviewed by York County School District.

Good luck to your husband! So far my fiance and I really like the teachers-teachers website. He is just collecting 2 more letters of reference today then he's going to start applying for jobs! *So* excited! If your husband joins this website you might want him to do so before he leaves because it wants you to upload credentials/letters of reference/etc. Might give him something to do to pass the time until he comes. Another helpful feature is that he can save job postings so he can start looking up jobs and applying before he comes in March.

I'll update you guys soon with any additional information we find.

The state sites suggested also are really helpful too (like the Texas links provided in this thread). I'm sure that if you google virginia school districts there would be a similar site for that state.
