We also used a lawyer for our fiance visa processing... Its been almost two months now, and we haven't heard from them. Aren't they suppose to notify us about the process? Or give us receipt number for us to check the process online? Thank you very much.

I wonder why a lawyer :D Me and my fiance did the k1 thing with no help from lawyer. As long as you know you have no problem with papers. or even if you do those lawyers can't do anything other than to tell you to provide this and that. but anyways, its an unsolicited word - well, you said its already 2 months now...and yes you should have heard words from them , they must gave you the receipt number for u to check the status of the k1. we got the reciept number in less than 1 week when our petition had been filed at the USCIS

Yeah, its a bit annoying when we don't hear any word from them. My situation is a bit complicated though because Philippines is my country of origin, then moved to Canada to be a caregiver @_@. So we hired a lawyer...

MV,... " I just think its part of their job to update us about what is happening."

Did you sign a contract with the lawyer, stipulating that they would do this?

If not,... then you are at their mercy (or, lack of mercy, is more like it)

A lawyer is also responsible in relaying the status / any information with regards to the of a case of their respective clients.

@Dean_De: I sure hope they do.

Call them and ask them to forward you the NOA1. through that you will know they did the paperwork and when. And through that info you yourself can be able to know th eupdates of your case by logging in the USCIS website if and when the website works :D

Yes, ... maybe in an ideal world, but not the one we live in.

I know. I deal with them every day.

Lawyers are not "supposed to do" anything in particular. They do what they will. It would not be unusual that they haven't even sent anything yet. You need to ask them what they are doing.

That is why I would never use a lawyer to fill out forms and mail them

why? are lawyers code of ethic different from every other country? Oh well - just me asking :D - but anyways, if they don't bother do their responsibility right its because they are tolerated to do so or in worst case, sad to say and not being rude, this kind of lawyers the the ones who needs more $$$$ to upgrade their service :D. Anyways, if and when one think they get an unsatisfactory service to what they paid, I guess if you encounter irresponsible lawyers who doesn't perform their specified task and be responsible and accountable enough, the next thing a client will do is not to use them next time..not even recommend. If in the long run they lose clients do you think they will keep doing what they are doing? Not unless they are the only lawyer who offers a lowest PF well, you get the kind of service = to the amount you paid :D IMHO

I also have a lawyer due to some unique issues. Even if you have a lawyer the petitioner will also receive the NOA1 in the mail. USCIS sends a copy of the NOA1 as well as the NOA2 to both the petitioner and the lawyer. Are you sure the lawyer has submitted the papers to USCIS?
