DCF Manila, am I missing something?

OK, filed a I-130, received the approval letter, but no case number. I read something from this site that says I have to file a DS-230, or I won't get a packet 3. OK, so I make a trip to the embassy and she (window 38 agent) gives me the case number, Great. BUT she won't accept the DS-230, she said just bring it (Part i and ii) to the interview. This case number is the magic key that lets you go online and get an appointment date for an interview. So that's what I did, used the Case number and now have an appointment date, Hurray!

NEXT DAY, packet 3 arrives, and at the top is says: Complete and return DS-230 along with DS-2001 (NOTIFICATION OF APPLICANT READINES). Am I missing something here? If you get an interview date doesn't that mean you are ready for the interview and you don't need to file the DS-2001?

It seems that Packet 3 from Manila needs updating, because I can't see that they need anymore info until the interview.

At this point I'm not sending anything in and will just show up at the scheduled interview date. Comments?
