How much to file AP while AOS in process?. How long does it take?

I am pregnant and will give delivery in Indonesia while my AOS still in process. Due to the RFE that we got, we doubt that the AOS will be finish by the time i need to fly there which is February or early March.

Anybody has the same experience before? Please share. Thanks.

AP generally takes around 2 months. However, you need to keep in mind that if you leave on AP to have a baby and are scheduled for the interview in that time period and do not show up, your AOS will be abandoned and you'll need to file a CR-1 instead.

No, we did not. Because we just knew the pregnancy two months after we file the AOS.

So, we can not reschedule our interview?

Like when we got the Biometric appointment, there is option wether we wanna reschedule it or not.

It's strongly recommended that you do not. USCIS does not always get the necessary information to everyone, so you might reschedule your interview only to find out that USCIS did not give that memo to your local office and they are expecting you on the original date. If that happens, when you don't show up (even though you thought you were rescheduled), you'll get denied and have to refile or reopen your case. It's a huge gamble.

I am wondering how your baby will get back. We had a daughter born overseas and it was a pain to get her passport, birth certificate, etc from the US consulate overseas.

This will delay your return even more. Both parents have to appear in person at the embassy to apply, the USC has to prove presence in the US (5 years after age 16 or something like that)and the process cannot be started without an original and translated copy of the overseas birth certificate. It took us (2 1/2 months just to get a passport for our daughter.

Just a consideration when you are in the process of AOS.....

We DID get US and Indonesian passport for our daughter though. She can fly in as indonesian citizen (with mom) while I have to wait in that new line to buy a visa.

Thanks for sharing. I heard about that pain. I know it must be headache but i dont have anybody here to take care of me and the baby once i give delivery. My husband's family spreaded in other states. Practically, i live by myself here. It is not easy as well to get some of my family members here, so i choose just to give birth there.

Experience given for consideration only - just a trigger to remember to add some time to the return plans for passport processing for the baby.

The good news on that is that if all the paperwork is in order the embassy kicks out the US passport in about (2) weeks. Our delay was (mostly) from the Saudi side they are the slowest government employees on the planet.

Good luck either way. Don't forget that Indo passport for baby! Congrats on addition to family

We live in Saudi and DCF from here. SO: Our daughter was born here. We had to (1) get a BC from the saudi government to (2) get translated to (3) get the Certificate of Birth / Passport from the US consulate and (4) the 2nd passport from the Indo embassy.

It took weeks and weeks to get the birth certificate from the saudi government just so that we could go apply for the US passport. That was our delay. From the time you get the Indo birth certificate, get it translated, and go to the US embassy for application for passport/consular report of birth it will take 2-3 weeks.

SO: Add time to get a birth cert from the indo govt + a couple days to translate it + 2-3 weeks to get the US stuff to your travel plans and dont forget dad has to come to the embassy with you to apply for the US passport/consular report of birth.

Good luck!
