Hello,

Just need some information. I realize that I am quite a ways away from getting my medical done...(just sent in the petition last week) but am doing some research to see what will be required as part of this whole K-1 process.

Just need to know if the doctor will provide the vaccinations during the medical or if this is something that I can get done before hand. I haven't had any immunizations in years and have no records of these...so just wondering how to go about doing this. Someone sent me a link to what vaccinations are required and I believe that there are 17 of them.

I live in Ontario and am wondering if:

A) I can get these done by my family doctor beforehand?

B) If I am able to get some of these done beforehand, will they be covered by OHIP?

C) How long are these vaccinations valid for?

Again, I realize that I have a ways to go before the medical exam but want to be prepared as possible so that I am not scrambling at the next minute to get things done.

Hoping someone can help out.

Thanks

Moe

USCIS CS know what is required, if you take evidence of shots you do not need them again. The vaccinations are valid for life generally. Upon entry to us you will need to see CS again (we did), he reviewed the records, x-ray films, checked blood and did a TB test.. We were married then so I had her on my insurance which helped. Some have complained it is too expensive, but we paid for the paperwork processing for USCIS and my co-pay. Have fun.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.

You can go to your local doctor and have a serology test done to see if you need any vaccinations updated and to see what you have had. Vaccinations are for life bar the flu one. Then when you do go for your medical you can take that letter from your doctor to the CS for K1 medical and that's it.

I know in Alberta and BC the public health offices keep records of vaccinations given, even in schools. Here is a list of the vaccination requirements: http://travel.state.gov/pdf/medical/MTL-MED-ENGL-0005-1103.pdf

There are many threads on vaccinations in the Canada Forum in the Regional Forums section.

I haven't lived in Ontario but all of my vaccinations have been covered in AB and BC. I know the Hep B and some others take more than one dosage so you are better off starting your regimen sooner than later.

If you haven't had any boosters since school you will require some.

I am in BC and I got THE list of required vaccinations. If you have any other questions I probably have the answer for you...

Hep A

Heb B

Flu

Flu type b (Hib)

measles

mumps

rubella

meningococcal

pneumococcal

tetanus and diphtheria toxoids

pertussis

polio

rotavirus( but this is only given to children)

varicella

If you don't have any written proof of your vaccinations then you go to the doctor and ask for a blood test to be done as in for MMR, if you know the year you had chicken pox (varicella) then that is good enough. You only need the flu shot if you believe you will be heading down there in flu season. Make sure it is this years vaccine. Oh yes and very important... MUST HAVE THE D-TAP vaccination. it 's the tetanus, diphtheria,& pertussis.
