Hi, I am ready to book my flight through Eva airlines. Anybody in here who flew through eva air from Manila to the US ( helps if you fly all the way to Dallas - but if not, ideas are highly appreciated ). Anyways, I want to ask, ones we book the flight from Manila to the US (i.e - DFW ) do we still have terminal or whatever fees and taxes to be paid? What about the baggage fees? Are the baggage checked in all the way to our supposed destination? - Any tips would be nice :D

EVA Air does not fly to Dallas, if you fly to the US on EVA Air, your POE will be LA, San Francisco, or Seattle. From one of those locations, you would fly on another carrier to Dallas and you would have to pay any baggage fees that carrier charges.

Your baggage will probably be tagged to it's final destination, however, you will have to claim it at the POE and take it through customs. After you clear customs, you would then re-check your luggage.

I asked the travel agency and they said that I don't have to worry about the baggage transfer from Eva Airline to american airlines. they said its the ground people of eva airline who will do the transfer of baggage from one plane after another. And yes the POE will be in LAX then connecting flight from LAX to dallas through american airlines. Darn I hope what they are telling me is true. the reason why I am clarifing it here to anyone who already had experiences

That travel agency must have absolutely no clue about US entry procedures. Your luggage will not be transferred from one plane to the other, you will have to claim it at LAX and take it through customs yourself. After you clear customs, you will have to recheck it with American Airlines.

Any taxes that have to be paid are included in the price of a ticket.

Wheww..is that how international flights work? - this is really confusing coz what I was told is different form whthe infos here

As I told you previously, EVA personnel will likely tag your luggage all the way to DFW from your staring point. However, that tag will also say LAX and they will inform you that you have to claim your luggage in LA and take it through customs. That travel agency that told you differently gave you information that was grossly incorrect. I have been flying internationally every year since 2005 (except 2006) so I have become familiar with US entry procedures.

Do not be confused, the travel agency gave you incorrect info. The information you got from Ryan H is correct. After you clear immigrations and customs, you will go to American Airlines and check your luggage with them.

Also note, LAX is a busy POE, when you book your original & connecting flights, leave plenty of time between arrival at LAX-immigration-customs-getting to American airlines-recheck luggage-security screening to make your connection.

Here is a map of LAX, American Airlines is located in terminal 4. http://www.airport-la.com/info/terminal_map.html

Then you'll be fine in that regard. I note the unhappy face, to give you a little prospective it is not unheard of to spend 2-3 hours clearing immigration/customs at LAX. That 6 hours will give you time to jump through all of the airport hurdles; visit the restroom, get some food/drink or snack, get to your gate and finally relax without the stress of a missed connection.

Best wishes.
