I had my appointment today at the Montreal Medisys location, with my 12 year old son. Our appointment was at 1:00, we showed up 25 minutes early, which I would recommend, as we did not leave till 3:00.

You wait behind a sign for the receptionist to call you up, and you give them the required documents, being your proof of immunizations, appointment confirmation letter, and photo ID. My appointment confirmation letter did not have my MTL number on it, which I had not realized, so I must have never got another one, or don't recall seeing it. In anycase, make sure you have that MTL number with you. They were very nice to me, and did not make me go back to the hotel to get it, they called the embassy, and the staff there provided it to them. (love that!)

I had to fill out a double sided medical history form for us both, but before I could even finish, they called me in for my xray. Pay attention, they speak fast, and your name sounds different with a french accent than you think. Also, when it comes time for your xray and they tell you to get undressed, they mean from the waist up only. I DID NOT KNOW THIS!!! I took off everything but my socks, and had that little blue gown on open to the back for the xray!!! (a little red faced when the woman that went after me asked them, "do I have to take everything off"? and they said to her, "only the top") My son was too young to need an xray.

Then we went back to the chairs to wait for more time, (close to an hour) before being called in to the nurse. The nurses checked my son's vision while they took my blood for syphilis testing. They took his height and his weight while I signed permission to them, then they took my vision and height and weight, pulse and blood pressure. We then went back to the waiting room, and I got called back in again, and had them retest my vision but this time with my contact lenses removed. I did not have to provide a urine sample, and don't recall seeing that they were ordering drug testing at all, which I was surprised by.

Then back to the waiting room again... then Dr Katherine C(can't recall the whole name, sorry) called us in together. She was SO nice! My son is very anxious and did NOT want to get undressed for the exam. I was really worried that it was going to be a huge disaster. I had a copy of his medical file showing that he has ADD, but had not printed that off, and while I didn't think it was needed, as it wasn't asked on the form, she took a copy anyway. She asked a series of questions about our lifestyle habits, and if we were going to see the doctor soon. I guess in Quebec it's common to see the doctor every year, but in Ontario it's not. I think it's been a couple of years since he's been, so I might want to have him seen soon, she said.

She took me into a separate room then, and checked my reflexes, and felt on my throat. She listened to my heart and to my lungs. I then lay down and she felt on my belly. Then I had to pull my pants down for her to have a peek between my legs. That was all.

I went in to the exam for my son, and it went exactly as above except to the point that he had to pull his pants down. She explained to him that she was just looking for lesions, and not to touch him at all, and after much crying and saying he didn't want to, we finally convinced him to let her look. I also had to bribe him with Battlefield 3 when it comes out next week.... (little does he know he was going to get it anyway, but now he knows he can manipulate mommy....)

We went back to the waiting room, and then were called up to the desk to pay. $352 later and I get a receipt and can pick up our files next Wednesday.

Hope that helps!

Also, my hotel is a 5 minute walk from there!!

Advice: go early

Don't go with an empty stomach

bring something for the kids to do while you wait.

LMAO, can't believe I forgot to mention the BEST part! The doctor asked how old we were while we were walking down the hallway, I told her our ages and she started to laugh. She had told me that she was making sure we were old enough to be there without parents! She thought that my son was my brother and I was under 18!!! (gonna rub that one in lots!!)

Bumped as this thread is suddenly relevant to my interests!

My husband had his medical at Medisys in Montreal today. His appointment was at 11:45, and he said he was done within an hour. They took his blood and gave him a flu shot. Luckily, he had a vaccination booklet from childhood, and this allowed him to get through without any additional vaccinations. Luckily, I say, for me, because he is a BIG BABY about all of this medical stuff. Now I'll have to hear him whine about his flu shot  I'm just glad he got it done and didn't run for the hills (Mount Royal!) when they pulled out the syringes.

They said his results will be available on Thursday. His total cost was $240 (Canadian).

I wish I had more detail to offer, but he doesn't retain information like I do (same reason I won't be able to post a full review of the interview).

Poor little guy - I wouldn't want to be 12 and have to remove much clothing in front of a women Dr either - I wonder if you could have asked for a male? I requested that it would be a women for my then 15 yr old so she wouldn't be uncomfortable.

I asked my husband for any additional details of his exam that I could share here, and he said (without knowing about this thread), "They looked at my #######! There I said it!"

Hmm, it was funnier when he said than when I read it.

Why not just make a week's vacation out of it and do the medical and interview in the same trip? That's what the hubby and I are planning, since trying to get him from Edmonton to Montreal (or Toronto) twice is going to be way too insanely expensive.

Holding my nose and jumping off the cliff.. hope I don't hit any rocks in the water.

The basic exam is $215, but if they determine you need additional vaccinations or a flu shot, your cost will go up, so that might be more difficult to predict.

My husband had to get a flu shot, so his total was about $240.

Edited to add the phone number of Montreal Medisys: Toll Free: 1 800-499-1394 x 3400. The receptionists can answer all your questions (in English!).
