ONly one President has sunk Lower than Barry at this point in their presidency,

but Carter was not near the Politician Obama is, I believe Obama can still recover to a second term.

ON the other side, the GOP is not helping him do this as the GOP did (unknowingly) for Clinton.

It looks like he is only a few points off from Allah Reagan! And why does Obama have 90 polls while all the other presidents have 2, 2, 3, 3, 7, 8....

ljg-7uwbtusj7t66wz_dnq.gif

In any case, Bush's latest [July 20 to October 19, 2008] quarterly average is among the worst Gallup has measured for any president since 1945. For the 252 presidential quarters for which Gallup has data, only 9 are worse than Bush's most recent.

Three other two-term presidents -- Dwight Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan, and Bill Clinton -- were rated much more positively at this point [31st quarter] in their presidencies.

The big difference though is that by this point Reagan's number were on the rise, while Obama's are still trending down. It will take a miracle for Obama's numbers to start a significant rise to get him to the point Reagan was at by the mid term elections.

The lesson learned by Bush's low second term numbers are- low numbers means your party doesn't get re-elected.

We must compare apples with apples. The reason Bush was so low was many in the GOP stuck to their principles and abandoning him.

THe Left have few such principled people as we can see from the "occupy" groups who blame everyone but the Bail-out King, Obama.

We must compare apples with apples. The reason Bush was so low was many in the GOP stuck to their principles and abandoning him.

THe Left have few such principled people as we can see from the "occupy" groups who blame everyone but the Bail-out King, Obama AND BUSH.

"The deficit for fiscal year 2009 — which began more than three months before President Obama's inauguration [fiscal years begin in October]— was $1.4 trillion and, at 10 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the largest deficit relative to the economy since the end of World War II."

But I'm sure you think 2009s $1.4 trillion deficit full of bailouts galore under Bush belongs to Obama??? Danno - Get your facts straight!

"The events and policies that pushed deficits to these high levels in thear term were, for the most part, not of President Obama's making. If not for the Bush tax cuts, the deficit-financed wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the effects of the worst recession since the Great Depression (including the cost of policymakers' actions to combat it), we would not be facing these huge deficits in the near term. By themselves, in fact, the Bush tax cuts and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan will account for almost half of the $20 trillion in debt that, under current policies, the nation will owe by 2019. The stimulus law and financial rescues will account for less than 10 percent of the debt at that time."

5-10-11bud-f1.jpg

"President Obama, however, still has a responsibility to propose, and put the weight of his office behind, policies that will address our key long-term fiscal challenge — preventing the relentless rise of debt as a share of GDP that will occur under current policies. The President and Congress could make major progress toward stabilizing the debt for the coming decade by letting all of the Bush tax cuts expire on schedule at the end of 2012. That would just be a first (although a substantial) step. To keep the debt stable over the longer run, when the fiscal impacts of an aging population and rising health care costs will continue to mount, policymakers will need to take large additional steps on both the expenditure and revenue sides of the budget.Having said that, policymakers should not mistake the causes of the swollen deficits that we face in the decade ahead — nor make policy based on mistaken impressions."

Just two policies dating from the Bush Administration — tax cuts and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan — accounted for over $500 billion of the deficit in 2009 and will account for $7 trillion in deficits in 2009 through 2019, including the associated debt-service costs. [7] By 2019, we estimate that these two policies will account for almost half — nearly $10 trillion — of the $20 trillion in debt that will be owed under current policies.[8] (The Medicare prescription drug benefit enacted in 2003 also will substantially increase deficits and debt, but we are unable to quantify these impacts due to data limitations.) These impacts easily dwarf the stimulus and financial rescues, which will account for less than $2 trillion (less than 10 percent) of the debt at that time. Furthermore, unlike those temporary costs, these inherited policies (especially the tax cuts and the drug benefit) do not fade away as the economy recovers."

Without the economic downturn and the fiscal policies of the previous Administration, the budget would be roughly in balance over the next decade. That would have put the nation on a much sounder footing to address the demographic challenges and the cost pressures in health care that darken the long-run fiscal outlook.[9]"

Correction: The CBO estimated a $1.2 trillion deficit for FY 2009. They made this projection in January 2009 - 2 weeks before Obama took office.

Dayum, we are nearing Obamas re-election and still he is in blame Bush mode.

That is the difference between Reagan and Barry, Reagan wasn't taking about Carter three years into his Presidency.

I might vote for him in the primaries.

I don't think I'd vote for him against Obama unless he (Romney) raises my taxes - then I'll vote for Romney. rofl.gif

It would be pretty hard to be worse than Carter but how can anyone think being the second worst President in history is a good thing?blink.gif

Interestingly enough, actual US historians have wildly different views than the "great Internet unwashed" (that would be armchair pundits like you) as to who the worst US presidents in history have been.

Historians list mostly the inferior 19th century Presidents, mostly pre- Civil War, as being our greatest disappointments. The James Buchanans and Millard Fillmores and Franklin Pierces of the list.

Internet chatterboxes, given a chance to vote on such matters, all seem to gravitate to modern Presidents - Obama, Bush43, Clinton in particular. I wonder why that is? My guess is most chatterboxes have never even HEARD of Rutherford B. Hayes. Never cracked a history book, yet you're going to tell us who "the worst President in history is". Not likely.

Here are the ten worst Presidents in American history, as ranked by US News and World Report by polling historians. This is from 2007, so predates Obama, but historians generally don't rank sitting Presidents. Note that the only 20th century names on this list are Richard Nixon, Herbert Hoover and Warren Harding. The other eight are 19th century.

http://www.usnews.com/news/history/articles/2007/02/16/worst-presidents-introduction

1. James Buchanan

2. Warren G. Harding

3. Andrew Johnson

4. Franklin Pierce

5. Millard Fillmore

6. John Tyler

7. Ulysses S. Grant

8. William Harrison

9. Richard Nixon (tie)

9. Herbert Hoover (tie)

10. Zachary Taylor

And, here are the US News public poll results of the great unwashed plebes who troll Internet sites. This is an active poll, explaining how our current President is able to receive votes. Notice something? The only 19th century name appearing on the historians list which also makes the Internet-poll list is James Buchanan. 69% said George Washington, an obvious poll fail. The other names getting statistically significant votes are all modern Presidents. Conclusion? People trolling the Internet do not know their history.
