Usually a wait.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

Wait, which in some cases means a few days for stamping passport and delivery (usually under a week) and in other cases means AP -Administrative processing; which can mean months. There are countries with a pattern of AP but I'm not familiar with India,and I don't recall many VJ members also processing visa in India posting in this regard. Perhaps other members also processing in India can answer that.

Normally you would know which at end of interview.

For all Indian Consulate, you can collect the visa the next day at only the VFS in the city of the Consulates - meaning Mumbai VFS for Mumbai Consulate eelse it will be couriered to either your closest VFS (if you don't have Blue dart service at the place of your residence) to be collected from there or your home address give at the time of paying VFS fee.

Hyderabad guys that went to Chennai Consulate are receiving their visas through courier in 2 - 3 days. I think it will be 3 - 5 days for Mumbai & Delhi (those are busy VFS).

USA

01/08/13 - Approved and GC is order for production on 1/8/14

09/12/13 - Case transferred to CSC. NOA2 received on 09/18/13

08/30/13 - Biometrics Done - No walk ins allowed at this LSC (received on 8/16/13).

08/05/13 - NOA1 (received on 08/10/13)

08/01/13 - Mailed I-751 (received on 8/2/13 - check cashed on 8/5/13)

12/28/11 - Received SSN (applied on 12/20/11, as we didn't get based on DS-230 options)
11/28/11 - Received Green Card (Expires on 10/30/13) - Welcome Letter on 11/17/11
10/30/11 - POE - Houston, TX

Chennai Consulate (40 days)
10/28/11 - Received Visa papers and Passport at VFS
10/25/11 - Interview Cleared Successfully (Spouse was not allowed in)

NVC: (90 days from NOA2 to Consulate)
08/31/11 - Case Completed (Interview 10/25/11) - Received at Chennai on 09/19/11
07/22/11 - NVC Case Number

USCIS: (92 days)

6/21/11 - NOA2 (NOA1 on 3/25/11) - took a month to get to NVC
3/21/11 - I-130 sent to USCIS Lockbox, Chicago.

Mumbai from time to time has the visa ready to go the same day as the interview. VFS closes at 5 pm IST. It depends on how fast they can process your paperwork.

Turn around time for Mumbai if you don't receive it same day is about 2-3 days not including the actual interview day.

Guys my interview has been scheduled!! Dec 12, 2011. What do you suggest I should do about booking my flight? How many days after the interview should be safe to travel considering the visa etc is in my hands. 7 days ok?

OP, you've got your answers for the Mumbai consulate :thumbs:

For the KL consulate, if you are approved, the visa comes one day after the interview. Very efficient, IMO.

December 2009 -- Visit to Malaysia.

February 2010 -- Applied for B2 visa, approved.

March 2010 -- Visited US.

April 2010 -- Returned from US.

May 2010 -- Sent in K1 Visa application.

July 2010 -- Received NOA2 in 71 days from NOA1.

July 2010 -- Packet 3 received.

August 2010 -- Cancellation of K1 Visa application.

Actually I applied for expediting my case and got Dec 12. then I again asked for preponement of the interview and they gave me Nov 29. I got the date today.

I have job interviews to attend which happen only once in a year. If I missed these then I would have to wait for another year.
