My fiancee in Vietnam got her k-1 visa approval yesterday and in preparation for her trip to america I found this entry in the USCIS website regarding entry into the united states.

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_2994.html#17

It states:

Entering the United States - Port of Entry

A visa allows a foreign citizen to travel to the U.S. port-of-entry and request permission to enter the United States. You should be aware that a visa does not guarantee entry into the United States. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials have authority to permit or deny admission to the U.S. Upon arrival at the port-of-entry, be prepared to present to the CBP officer your passport with visa and your unopened/sealed packet containing your documents. Travelers should review important information about admissions and entry requirements on the CBP website under Travel.

The part I want to ask is what documents needs to be preserved in the seal when she receives her visa letters? I just don't want her to start opening every letter in the packet if certain ones or all needs to be unopened. Thanks all!

I'm not sure how your fiancee will receive her package from the embassy but only open the portion that has her passport. It should be in a different section of the courier package. Leave the big envelope sealed...It will clearly be marked "Do Not Open" or something similar.

I'm not sure what you mean visa letters...the visa will be affixed to the passport when it comes to her from the embassy. When you enter the US the agent will stamp her entry next to the visa and attach the I-94 slip that you complete upon arrival. Remember, as a K-1, the visa itself is a one time entry visa. The I-94 is what gives her the authorization to stay in the USA for 90 days. You should marry and file AOS before the end of the 90 days, sooner is better.

Be sure you warn her...Do Not Open The Document Package!

The packet will have "Do Not Open" written on it, act accordingly. Tell her to only remove her passport, be happy and have a safe trip.

Congratulations!

EVERYTHING that is in the sealed envelope needs to STAY in the sealed envelope. DO NOT OPEN the envelope marked "DO NOT OPEN"
