The last question on DS-230, or for that matter any immigration form, says so:

Did any one help you to complete this form. Yes or No. If yes write down the name of the person who helped you, relationship, contact information and bla bla bla.

I helped my wife complete the form and she just signed it. To not tangle into the extra trouble it might invite. I simply select "No" on the question and leave the space below blank. She knew the form. She signed it without my help. I just provided the labor, so I feel justified in selecting No.

But then if you really want to pick on the technicality that is not exactly a true answer. If you want to scrutinize it I probably should have selected Yes and put my information below it. They all know it.

My question is are they going to get serious on picking on trivial stuffs like that. Or it is just so trivial and non-material that it should not cause any issue at all? What are the opinions of you guys?

Another triviality is the signature. I have the bad habit of signing my name in such a form that even I myself could not recognize what exactly did I write. I guess a lot of people do. Would they insist on seeing a "better" signature, with a first name and a last name, and in a form that some how the individual letters could be recognized?

I guess I am just a bit paranoid. But I don't want to get even the smallest detail wrong.

My opinion:

1. There is nothing wrong in filling the details of the person, who helped one in filling the form. They just want to know if someone helped you specially if you don not know English - want to be sure that you know what you are signing. Other than that it has no other significance.

2. My dad's signature in no where close to his name and he uses it in all the important document with no issues - applied for H1, Green Card, Citizenship......

Lots of signatures aren't legible. If you helped your wife fill out the form, say so. Tell the truth.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
