Did you even run it past the kid?

It might be beneath him to be washing cars. Russians don't even do this type of work in Russia. They have Kazakhs like we have Mexicans doing the menial work.

He can get the job and sub it to a Mexican. They will ask for his green card but not the Mexican's

Gigolo. Older fat American chicks with money dig young guys from foreign countries.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Car wash is off the table. He's got a job installing windows and doors. He loves it. The owner is Russian and the crew are from FSU countries like all those "Stan" countries. Anyway, this is quite a ways up the chain from the car wash. The money's low because the owner is legit...and takes out taxes. That's a good sign. We'll see what happens on payday. If he gets his full pay, I'd say he's on his way to a decent job once he serves his time as an apprentice. And down the road he could start his own business.

Or...save up some cash for college if he decides to go that route.

One question I just thought of...does he have to register for the draft?

Yes, technically he does.....I never did! It was my protest at the time, even though if I had to go, due to my schooling, I would have signed up for the Nuke Subs and eat very well!

That is great news; he'll learn a skill or two that will help him either publicaly or personally down the road.

Good news, sounds like a good job but I hope he gets some exposure to English.

Yes he must register for the draft

Yes, he does, not technically. He cannot afford to protest, he will have to show that he has registered for the draft for his citizenship. It is a requirement of a green card holder, male age 18-26, along with filing tax returns.

Good point. I didn't care back in the 70's but I was a USC and was excercising my right!

Back in the 70's when it was my turn to register, they had stopped doing registration.

Good stuff! Workin for a livin!

I would have signed up for the Nuke Subs and eat very well!

I had a Navy recruiter hounding me to sign up. He offered a six year enlistment with a four year degree in nuclear engineering, guaranteed E-4 and an extra $250/month. I thought, "Man, that's way better than the Air Force. What's the catch?" No catch, he said. But... uh.... it's sub duty.

Something about 250 dudes locked up in a hot metal tube just doesn't sound like fun to me. He almost got me though. I look back on it and think, "I coulda been Homer Simpson by now."

It doesn't help that the hot metal tube resembles a #######...and is full of seamen.

Nope. Not at all.

The AF recruiter actually won me over with the line, "and we have girls. Lots of 'em."

I don't think they can pimp out the girls anymore. But I can appreciate the irony of a girl inside an object shaped like a #######.

During my time...if I remember correctly (and these days there's no guarantee of that!) we had the Women's Army Corp (WACS).

What I'm about to share is tasteless...so you've been warned. When I was a trainee in the Army, I went outside one day to toss some trash in this big dumpster and some wise guy painted on it in big letters: "Tomb of the Unknown WAC."

I don't think I'd dig having women around when I was doing my warrior deal. I'm old enough to still believe there are places only men go...like to war. Before the Army stupidly closed Walter Reed, I'd go there a lot and I'd see all these men without limbs at the hospital. But sometimes I'd see a few women with prostheses (legs, arms) and it hit me hard. Never saw that sight during Vietnam.
