What does USCIS do for AOS processing

Having nothing to do but wait, I started looking for informaiton regarding what USCIS does with AOS applications (besides let them sit in a box ). SO, what do they do? Is there a specific process, a list of items they have to accomplish to approve our applications, or a guide book that tells the IO what the look for in each application?

No haha. Pretty much you just sit there and impatiently wait like all of us! We gladly share our angst thats why we have this website! Pretty much they look at your information, make sure they have everything they need, send out request for more evidence if needed. They will send you a biometrics appointment letter, get your fingerprints take and picture too. After that its just pretty much in their hands whether or not you get interviewed or not and when and where. When did you send your package?

We sent the AOS package July 19, received NOA1's, Bio appoinment was August 18, and file was transfered to CSC on September 6. We are only three months into the process, but waiting, even after the K1 process, is not my strong point.

I do suspect that the processing takes only a few minutes. The rest of time the papers are just sitting in a box or on a desk. I am really curious about what is done in the few minutes.

oh wow, ahaha. I thought you just sent in the papers. Im behind you in line. I honestly think its probably sitting in a pile until more cases are put together to send at once. Thats just a theory.

THis might sound stupid, but what exactly is a name check? If it is only running a name against a data base, why does that take so long? If they are checking to see if the names used are, in fact, the petitioners real name, I do not see how they would ever determine that. I suppose it could be done though. And, if a name check was done for the visa (K1 in this case) why don't they use that information? Maybe they think they will get a different result this time.

Much the same thought goes for the background check. They did one somewhere between September 2010 and April 2011 (again in our case). Should not be much changed since then. I guess I should not complain. I read books more than one time and, of course, the story is the same each time.

It is, in the end, USCIS's fault that we have time to contemplate such questions! jajaja

Lol I think they want to make sure that the name you have isn't linked to anything or that you have the same name as someone who's done something bad. I don't care what they do i just want them to do it fast haha

The guidebook is called the Adjudicators Field Manual. There are several sections that apply, indirectly, to adjustment of status. For example, chapter 2 on customer service, chapter 10 on general policies and procedures, chapter 11 on evidence, chapter 14 on legal research, chapter 15 on interview procedures, etc.

The main chapter you'll be interested in is chapter 23, which is specifically about adjustment of status. Section 23.5 covers adjustments of status for family based immigration.

Note that a number of chapters are redacted in the public version. These are marked "reserved". The reason for redacting a section is usually because they don't want the general public to know their policies and procedures for that specific area because it affects their ability to detect fraud.

So i guess in a way a walk in does help because name checks are done as soon as you do your fingerprints. See, Im not crazy! lol

Im so sorry to hear that! But, how do you know its because of that? I heard some people called the FBI, did you?
