K-1 visa approved in Ankara! :)

US embassy Ankara: my fiance is Turkish and İ have been staying with him in Turkey for several months waiting. He had his interview in October 2011 for a k-1 visa.

We made an album full of photos (labeled location and date on each) bus tickets a copy of my residence permit western union papers and love letters (i even printed out our photos from skype calls- İ took a photo every time i would skype with him and they get labeled wıth a date in the gallery) - the interviewer commented that our photos looked warm- so İ think it helped. İt seemed repetitive to always take photos together everywhere we went but it paid off! My fiance waited for 3 hours before getting called for an interview that only lasted 3 minutes. The questions he got asked were : why did you choose her? why do you love her? and they just talked about that - the interviewer smiled and was friendly. The embassy building was cold and maybe 100 people were waiting there. He spoke both in turkish and english- it got mixed - my fiances accent and grammer is bad but the interviewer was understanding. İ did email the embassy asking if İ could come with to the interview and they replied that İ couldnt- maybe if i had worded it differently i would have gotten a different answer. 3 hours was a long time for him to sit there all worried and stressed- so i wish i could have been there. The postal for the visa packet was only about 15 liras and to be paid in his town when it comes- maybe arrive in less than 5 days they said.

Our process so far has been fast İ applied from America in March 2011 and everything went along smoothly. The embassy never sent us postal in Turkey but İ got emailed instead about the interview- also İ never got an email saying what we needed to bring before the interview but thats fine. His medical exam done a month before was very pricy- he had four vaccines all at one time and the price of those added up- hundreds of dollars.

We are thankful we got his visa and now our dream of taking that plane ride to America together is coming true! çok güzel!/ very beautıful!

The embassy/consulates almost never allow USC's in on the interview for this visa, not from what I see.

You wouldn't of gotten an email on what to bring - that info was on the site for that embassy. (one of the links for K-1)

Make sure you keep track of all your paperwork, and file for AOS as soon as you can.

OMG CONGRATS!!!! I am so happy to see your review! Our interview is in 6 days and Bahadir and I were just talking about the fact we did not get the email either from ankara with what we need to have. I was hoping its not list of what we specifically need to bring (like missing items) so its good to see you write the same! Bahadir too is planning to do in english but wants to answer in turkish if he can say clearer...so this wasnt problem? Did he have to ask for translator or the interviewer spoke turkish too? I am also glad the embassy is saying 5 days till delivery of visa/passport. All the heavy interview days and the holiday time off was a worry for me about that subject. Thank you again for this review, I am excited, nervous, anxious...we have been waiting since november 2010 for this to come to a finish on this part of it! Bahadir too is planning to do in english but wants to answer in turkish if he can say clearer...so this wasnt problem? Did he have to ask for translator or the interviewer spoke turkish too?

At Umits interview - they spoke in English, but the interviewer spoke turkish also, it was mostly in English.

we got the visa packet today in the mail! the intervıew was only lıke 2 days ago!

my fiance got several extra copies of his birth certf. to bring to America and they are translated in english. im also having him bring his old drivers license paper - hoping that helps him in that process. and his college degree also translated. İ doubt it will be easy to find a place to translate papers in America - especially because we do not live in a big city- we are going to live in small town Wisconsin for now.

i think the embassy interviewers all know turkish- since they probably live here- and he said they talked in other languages too. My fiances english is really not that good- İ found a free english class for him at a local college to take when he gets there. My parents have a hard time understanding him on the phone- i understand him because ive been with him for at least a year (i just started learning turkish for him)- but our love was the only language we really needed when we first met! Maybe other people cant understand how we communicate but im glad the embassy understood our story enough to approve us
