Address Change Question last minute....

Hi everyone,

My fiance lost his job and might have to leave Paris if he can't find a job to stay there. I was just about ready to send off the petition this week too....

My question is: I don't know if I should just put his current address, as he might (I hope!) stay there, and he says that mail can be forwarded to his new location wherever in the country his next job will take him if he does leave.

Is it a risk trying to do a change of address in the petition phase? I don't want documents to get lost! I could put his mom's address since it is at least certain she will be there, but I don't know if that's bad since he doesn't actually live with her?

Please help! I'm so confused as to what my options are....

Does he get mail at his moms home? I do not know if saying it is his address will be considered lying to the government but it sounds safe to do if he got mail there like he would use her address as his own.

The risk is losing time at USCIS, maybe just a few days to a week with an address change during the process. The good news is they do not send anything in the mail to him yet so you do have some time. So you could use his current address and then change it in a month when he settles into a new place. I would rather have uscis have my petition and then do the address change later then to hold onto the petition until he relocates.

So good luck and I think i would use his current address and email the address change when he moves.

May 24, 2011 NOA1

Sept 11, 2011 NOA2-took 19 days to get case number

Sept 30, 2011 NVC number and IIN received Friday-gotta wait till Monday

Oct 13, 2011 Case Completed- 13 days from receiving case number Took 32 days from NOA2

Nov 30, 2011 Notified of Interview date

January 19, 2012 Interview- 240 days from NOA1

INTERVIEW RESULTS-APPROVED WITH 14 WEEKS AP--but he got his visa in 56 days!!!!!!

PLEASE EDIT YOUR TIMELINE IN YOUR PROFILE SO OTHERS CAN LEARN HOW LONG EACH STEP TAKES IN THIS PROCESS

I share the same idea as togetherforever13. I don't know where you are in your process. but if it'ss the first step, since it takes time with USCIS, you will have to change his address later.

in my case, as a LPR, 2 months after that i sent I-130, my husband moved, so i gave the new address and we received all packages in new address.

also, they send me emails as well, so i'm sure we didn't miss any packges.

good luck

You could always address to 'care of' his mothers address and attach an addendum sheet explaining he is mid move. That way you'd list his adress as c/o********** and it makes it at once clear he picks up from there but is not exactly living there. Once he has moved you can file what I think is called an AR1 document which deals with change of address. I have read elsewhere on VJ that changes of address don't delay things, after all, people DO move and it should just be a matter of tapping new data into a computer at USCIS when you send in your new information. As you are the petitioner (is that right?) all mail should pretty much at this stage be going to you anyway, so I don't think he'll miss anything in that respect. I am the beneficiary and am at NOA2 stage and haven't heard directly myself at all from anyone, it all goes to the USC. Best of luck (p.s try signing up for email notificiation too, that way nothing will be missed)

Good point....even though I feel that things that shouldn't be difficult are when you are dealing with government workers.... ;)
